As a big fan of ice cream, I always make it a point to stop by Vanderwende’s when I’m in Dewey Beach—and they never disappoint. Located conveniently right off Highway One, this little ice cream shop serves up some of the best farm-fresh ice cream around.
I visited on a Sunday afternoon, and to my surprise, it wasn’t very busy. I ordered my go-to flavor: Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch in a waffle cone. It was as amazing as ever—rich, creamy, and full of flavor.
The staff at Vanderwende’s are consistently friendly and efficient. They hustle to get everyone served quickly, which is always appreciated, especially during the busy summer months.
It’s worth noting that prices have gone up a bit this season, making it a slightly pricier treat. Still, for the quality of the ice cream and the excellent service, it’s well worth it.
Highly recommend stopping in if you’re in the area!

We go here every time we pass through Dewey. The ice cream is delicious! I have loved every single flavor I’ve ever tried. You have to stop here! Parking can be tough on a busy night, but it is worth it!

Quite possibly the worst chocolate ice cream I have ever had. The ice cream starts at $8 for a good sized portion.
The salted caramel was ok, but we had to throw away 3/4 of the chocolate. I don’t even know what to compare it to? The store brand chocolate ice cream that’s been freezer burnt for months?
My wife wouldn’t let me embarrass the staff by asking for a refund, so here is the review.

Always a 5 star experience ⭐️ Absolutely love the farm fresh ice cream. Got the one scoop and was able to split flavors pineapple and coconut with real chunks mixed in! Will always return as often as possible

My husband and I went to Vanderwendes on 4th of July. It was super busy the line went really quick. So when it was time to order we had to see who this person was. His name was Trever he’s amazing and keeps the line moving fast. I got the berry cheesecake it was amazing!! And they serve big scoops yum.

I loved the cherry ice cream here. Very nice portions for what is being paid. They have a good amount of flavors available and many of them sounded great! My boyfriend got black raspberry and he enjoyed it. Sometimes there is a line that can be seen from driving by, but we got lucky and did not have to wait long.

Huge serving size. One scoop is literally a pint of Icecream. I recommend you get two scoops for $5 and split with someone instead of two scoops for $4 each. Butter pecan was thick and creamy and a tad artificial tasting. Well worth it. Would come back.
