We stopped in Hannibal to visit the Mark Twain Museum and walk around downtown, and decided to try Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant while we were in the area.

The lunch prices were very reasonable, with lots of specials available. My wife ordered the vegetarian fajitas for $10, and I had the lunch chicken fajitas for $11. Unfortunately, the chicken portion was noticeably smaller than the veggie fajitas, which was a bit disappointing. Flavor-wise, everything was fine—nothing outstanding, but still a solid lunch.

The complimentary chips were good, but the salsa tasted more like tomato sauce with some slight flavorings…the main player was onion, and it somehow bordered on something that would have paired nicely with pasta lol. There wasn’t any noticeable heat, and I wasn’t even sure there was much pepper or chili in it. I asked if they had a hotter salsa, which they did—but it came in a very small dish and ended up costing an extra $2. That was a little frustrating, though not a dealbreaker.

Service was about a 3 out of 5. Our water glasses were never refilled, dirty dishes sat on the table, and we had to flag down the waiter to get the check.

Overall, I’d give this place about a 3 out of 5 —reasonable prices, decent food, but some room for improvement in portions, salsa, and service.

Okay not going to lie Love the food Love the atmosphere great bartenders great service will say came in with my grandson one time who is about 9 months old and was told could I please quiet him I was so called and upset I hadn’t come back in almost a year but I decided to go ahead and come back because I love coming down by the river and I will tell you it was totally worth the trip. Giving people restaurants businesses etc chances proves itself in the end.

Amazing food, always. there are other Mexican restaurants but in my opinion this is the best one for several reasons. the tables are well spaced out, so your not hitting elbows with your neighbor as some are, the place is authentic, The food is all great. And you get a lot of of it. The staff stands around waiting to help you.. and the churros are terrific, 4 controls and huge scoop of ice cream. but forget all that, they serve the best mojitos ever outside the the Open Seas bar on key biscayne beach. all truth, just go here and eat and tell Roberto one of the owners hi, he will be serving you if you sit in the expanded area to the left. they also have outside sitting.

The food was so good! Hubby and I got the same thing, burritos. We were recommended this place by family. It is a really cool looking restaurant and it’s near the Mississippi River and a bunch of shops. We were glad to experience the area, it’s a small town so most people in the area already know about Rio Grande. We were told there’s another restaurant called Grande Rio but this is the better place of the 2. Either way we are glad we went here

when here with a small group. The place isn’t terrible but I don’t think I’d ever go back. Food was just Fine, Service was fine, but what really makes me want to give them less stars is their greed. this place will nickel and dime you for everything. I mean they charge you $2 for an extra plate, $1 for a togo cup of water, and thats just what I experienced during my one visit. Also, I don’t know if it was a mistake or something they regularly do, but when the waiter messed up 2 of our plates, he rang us up for the messed up plates and the fix ones. We didn’t notice until the next day. you’re better off going to one of the many other options.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner. My husband had a burrito with queso sauce and I had a tostado, taco, rice and beans. Everything was very good. We also enjoyed the chips and salsa. The staff were all very polite and accommodating. Based on our experience, I would highly recommend Rio Grande!

We went here because other places has waiting lists. It was ok. The wait for the food to arrive was kind of long and the food was ok but not great as far as Mexican food goes. The decor was fine but not super Mexican. The staff did seem to be working hard and was attentive. Probably hannibal isn’t the place to go for Mexican food but if you go here it’s ok.

I expected a little more flavor to the salsa. It was bland. The service was great. Our bartender gave us good recommendations and the food was good. A decent value for the price.

The food and margaritas are amazing. We went on a Friday and they had live music. I had the Chili Colorado, and it was spicy. I love spice, but this was almost too spicy.
