A Crowded Counter, Modest Comforts

Nahuen bills itself as an Argentine café and bakery, and the appeal is immediately clear: a no-frills room, a long line at the counter, and a steady hum of takeout bags heading out the door. We ordered a dozen empanadas to go—mostly meat—and thanks to an unadvertised Tuesday promotion, three more were slipped into the bag. Generous, yes. Memorable, not quite. Most were serviceable but unremarkable; the four-cheese version was actively disappointing, rich to the point of imbalance and left unfinished.

We added a Spanish tortilla, a simply plated chicken breast, and sweet potato fries. All arrived competently prepared, none demanding a return visit. Dessert held more promise: alfajores purchased to go, tidy and sweet, offered a better sense of intention than much of the savory food.

The order-first, food-later system keeps staffing lean but interrupts the flow, especially when the line stretches. Still, Nahuen is packed for a reason. It fills a niche: approachable prices, familiar flavors, and enough reliability to justify the crowd. Nearly $80 for a generous spread of empanadas, plates, and sweets felt fair—if firmly middle of the road.

Was there a few days ago and were told the system was down which is fine but the older man with glasses (manager/owner) was extremely rude to employees in front of customers. We even had to leave to a gas station to get change because the ATMs weren’t working for a long time. Empanadas are decent if you want to pay $5 for one but everything else cakes, sweets, pastries is overpriced and tasteless. For those prices you expect quality and flavor. Poor customer service, way overpriced. Do not recommend.

I stumbled upon this place a while back, ordered some empanadas to go and have been wanting to come back since. I finally came back today and I’m glad I did. Food was fresh and delicious, worth visiting often to try out different things. The lady that took my order was patient and friendly. It can get pretty busy so be patient. If you’re in a rush, it might be best to check out the line before anything. I’ll be back here for sure.

This restaurant has a different setup, you must order your items, pay, and then go sit down and wait for your food, which is good quality. It also has a small grocery section, with imported Argentinian items

I have always enjoyed visiting Milano’s Bakery. Since the recent fusion and expansion, now called Nahuen, I’ve noticed a change in the customer service. The warm and friendly attention I was used to seems different, and the staff sometimes appears less welcoming. It’s a bit sad to notice this change, as I always appreciated the atmosphere before.

First of all, what we had to eat was very good – a Breakfast empanada, a 4 Quesos empanada, and a ham and cheese croissant. However it was difficult to communicate without being able to speak Spanish – this is where the 3 stars for service come in. We were given no silverware. Also, it took about 10 minutes for them to bring us our coffees.
It is not easy when you are unfamiliar with what the pastries are and unable to communicate.
The market is clean and modern.
I doubt we’ll be back though.
