We used to love Hachi. It was wonderful under the previous owners/management. Now, unfortunately, it is not good.
Had a poor experience a year ago when we went to pay and the price was mysteriously higher than the advertised price on menu. The staff told us there was new owners so the price was different. They couldn’t bother even changing the menus.
Today, upon walking in, the place smelled like hot rotting fish. Ok- it’s sushi so let’s just roll with it. It took an uncomfortably long time to be greeted, and we seemed like an inconvenience to the staff for having shown up to eat.
The food was gross. But what was even grosser was the extremely dirty conditions of the restaurant. Everything from the sushi belt, to old menus, to walls and floors was covered in dust and dirt. It’s very clear they do not clean regularly or at all.
One staff member was actively eating (with his hands) inbetween preparing sushi. When my husband saw the waiter scratch his rear end (under his pants) then proceed to serve us food we had enough. We paid, left and will never be back. Really it’s a shame- it used to be good.

My wife and I got the buffet, which was mid at best. I always order the BBQ eel, which they didn’t have, and refused to make some until I complained. It used to be a great spot but as of lately it has gone down hill. The food was dry and tasted old, the restaurant also looked like it hadnt had a good cleaning in a while. Definitely would not recommend!

Unfortunately as other reviews have stated, new owners have taken over and this place has gone so far down hill. Beforehand, the sushi was okay quality but the price reflected that ($20/person for lunch all you can eat) but now for the horrible quality of sushi, they want $30/person just for lunch. We’ve decided to go elsewhere (Let’s Sushi in Rochdale) and the further drive was the better choice. Also, the location is in downtown so why would we fight driving down there, finding parking and going in for bad sushi then paying the outrageous price? Unfortunately it used to be good and our go-to place but they have gone downhill since the new owners have taken over.

Another sushi restaurant bites the dust. I have been eating at Hachi for years, but no more. How can sushi rice be both pasty and undercooked with hard crunchy bits at the same time? You should be embarassed to give rice like that to paying customers. What a waste of money. Dirty restaurant, dirty unkempt servers and cooks. Hachi used to be a great restaurant, but whoever is running the place is driving it into the ground. Avoid this place like the black plague my friends.

Came here because my partner and I wanted sushi. We were definitely in for a surprise. We came in, and one of the workers told us we could choose a seat (that was fine). But when our server came, he asked if we wanted to do the buffet; we said yes. He did not ask us if we knew how it works, just proceeded to give us the iPad. We sat there and started to grab sushi. The rice tasted sweet??, and the “dynamite roll,” or any rolls with deep-fried food, were soggy. The fish tasted old. My partner and I decided to try other things, so I looked through the menu on the iPad. I guess whichever item without a price was part of the “all you can eat.” We ordered tea, but nothing came. So, when the server came to collect our dirty dishes, he said, “Go order it on the iPad” and walked away. We ordered another one, and he finally came by with the pitcher. It did not taste like tea; it tasted like hot water and bleach. I ordered the wonton soup; it was bland—like chicken bouillon, water and bleach. I ordered steamed buns and egg custard, but they never came. They only arrived when we decided to stand up and pay for our meal, and he opened the steamer basket and asked if we wanted them; we said no. We just wanted to get the out of there.
I also ordered ice cream, and that did not come. The people working there were just chatting, and I saw one of the chefs making rolls while eating.
I guess coming from BC, our expectations were high, but the food, services, and atmosphere overall were probably among the worst we’ve experienced. Store-bought sushi (like from Superstore) would have been 10 times better.

The fish is good, it’s the stale rice for me. Went here 3 times and all times the rice tasted like it’s been there a while or not cooked enough. Rice is supposed to be soft and this is not it. The conveyor belt it cool! I’d just rather go to the other sushi place in town.

I ordered 6 sushi rolls yesterday, but only received 4. Additionally, the packaging was poor, causing the sushi to become smashed and making it impossible to pick up with chopsticks. Very disappointing experience, especially considering the quality I was expecting. I hope they improve on both their delivery and packaging.

I’ve been here so many times and the food has always been mid or not great. The service is also horrendous. Each time we come it’s a different server that doesn’t know what they’re doing. I don’t know what goes on during operations but I can tell you it’s not great. Today takes the cake because we have waited for almost an hour and a half for all our orders to arrive. No matter how many times I’ve clicked the service button for water, the server just doesnt come. And a beer that hasn’t arrived since we sent our first order.

Hachi Sushi offered a buffet-style sushi dining experience priced at $28.99 per person, which I found to be reasonable. The sushi dishes were placed on a conveyor belt, allowing me to freely select my preferred options. In addition to sushi, I also ordered some dumplings and my personal favorite, fried squid tentacles. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant.
