I usually order my paczki at Riverside Bakery in McHenry, but unfortunately, they had a fire and are temporarily out of business. I called and Village Backery said they made ones with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. What a disappointment there’s a little chopped up strawberry in the middle with whipped cream around it. The strawberries are turning dark cause they’ve been in there too long and they’re burned overcooked and dry, absolutely awful. I gave peace to my Dog and she would not eat it. I called to complain about the lack of strawberries when I saw them, but I never realized that they were overcooked and dry as a bone. She told me they searched for a long time to find the recipe. I think they better keep looking.
They were more like eating stale bread. I’m sorry I wasted $33 on eight of them. I added a photo of what a strawberry whipped cream paczki should look like

I hired Village Bakery to prepare treats for my daughter’s first birthday. I was looking for a smash cake and an assortment of cookies with the Hey Bear Dancing Fruit design in mind. See photos: they turned out phenomenal! The staff really put their heart and efforts into it and I was amazed by the detail. I would definitely recommend hiring them for any custom desserts you may need.
Also, leading up to the party, they were very communicative and made the process of customizing my order painless. I live several hours away from them (I was hosting the party nearby at my parents) so I really appreciated they were responsive via email. I had messaged two other bakeries in the area, and I was either completely ghosted or they never responded to me after that initial contact. Village Bakery did neither and it really set my mind at ease planning a party from a distance.

The donuts here are other-worldly. Think of every famous bakery treat you’ve ever had — then imagine the best possible version of each, amplified by 20. That’s the level of quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail happening in this place.
I tried the Maple Bacon Long John, Nutella-Stuffed Donut, Pistachio Cream-Filled Croissant, Chocolate Croissant, two Éclairs, and the Cinnamon Crunch Loaf…
Every single one was mind-blowing. Flavors dialed in. Textures perfect. Presentation on point.
If you’re anywhere near this bakery, do yourself a favor and go. This isn’t just dessert — it’s an experience.
100/10 ⭐️ ❤️

The best place! We love it here. Everything we’ve tried, danish, pastries and donuts are incredible. If you have never tried this place, you need to stop here! Everyone is so friendly as well!

This place has been gentrified and the donuts have gone downhill. It has been about a year since I’ve been here but I walked in and it had gotten a major face-lift. I had to ask if they had a Boston cream donut because it was not apparent what kinds of donuts they had. I got 2 donuts and 2 pastries. The Boston cream donut was not a Boston cream donut. It was more of a chocolate iced cream puff. The filling was not custard. The chocolate croissant and cheese danish were good.

Walked in on a whim while waiting for the train. Bought a sourdough loaf and their chocolate croissants. Both were delicious and fresh and the croissants tasted phenomenal warmed up even a couple days later. I was pleased that they also sold bread and not just pastries/cakes. I was greeted with a smile and service was fast. Great little local spot. They also have a little fridge with VERY fancy looking cake.

I’ve visited to this bakery over the years and it has not been living up to its history.
While the inside looks amazing with the clean paint and ceramic flooring, I miss the coffee bar. It would be great to add chair/table groups (like they have outside) inside by the front windows.
The samples we got were disappointing. The caramel on the cinnamon roll was so hard that half of the pecans were not edible. If the croissant had not had almonds on it I would have known by the flavor that it was an almond croissant.

I paid 20 cents shy of 11:00 for 3 items. The strawberry donut was dry and hard. The chocolate croissant had very little filling. The coconut macaroon was the only decent item. Will not be back. Way too expensive for terrible bake goods. There is no ambience at all. Very disappointed.

I ordered 2 coconut 2 custard filled and 4 white frosted cake donuts with a pocket up date for Saturday 01/17/26. I was very disappointed! They were stale….with the exception of the custard. I was told I couldn’t order over the phone due to being short staffed! I had to order online. I used to get my donuts for my family every Saturday and since the new owners took over they have been not good. I’ve tried 3 times now to see if they would improve! Nope…..my grandkids took one bite and said gross….my mother tried to eat the coconut one and it crumbled all over. Very very disappointed! I won’t be going back!

First time back since “the update.” Sad to see that the bakery options were dramatically reduced. Came in for a classic Bismarck (which I have done for years- for context), to find not only had the price gone up by 50%, but the donut recipe had changed to a cake style that was 75% donut and 25% filling, and the chocolate icing was not as generous as in the past and tasted a bit like chemicals (to be honest). Maybe the update is good for some, but for this customer, it’s a miss. Good luck in your endeavors, Village bakery.
