One of the coolest and most exquisite restaurants I have been in Illinois! It is a true gem!
They have a huge variety of special tequilas and mezcal. The cocktail menu is super creative and the food is spectacular.
I had the smoked trout pancakes and they were outstanding, as well as the burger and liver. The ambience is super cool and the service is top notch. Will definitely go back!!

Took a road trip for a day to Starve Rock National Park; while in the area I was craving a good bloody mary. Decided to check out a local business. We found Año Del Gallo, a speak easy dive bar with a lot of tequila & mezcal options (I would say the best I ever seen, tequila straight from Mexico.)

My friend and I ordered a bloody mary, which is home made mix and I would say it’s a perfect kick of spicy, and was delicious! As for food, we had the Ora king salmon; Rich in flavor, cooked perfectly and juicy. We also had the Special toast (French toast) I would say is the best I ever had, perfect texture, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and a touch of the almond crumble. If I could, I would give you more then 5 stars. Highly recommended!!

Amazing experience!

The food here is 100% 5 star Chicago restaurant fantastic. It’s probably in the top 5 restaurants we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. We will be back even if it involves a 5 hour round trip. If you are anywhere in the area of this little hole in the wall of perfection you really need to check them out. This is a real, trained chef who knows how to blend spice to create absolutely fantastic, flavorful dishes. His wife is the bartender and she is a true mixologist. I can’t say enough about this wonderful location.

Dive bar meets impressively delicious food.
If you like dive bars and you like gourmet food, you found your soulmate. Food was fantastic. The Paloma cocktail was fantastic. Only managed to snap one photo and it’s a beauty. It’s of their baked clam appetizer. Would recommend and will be back, thank you.

My husband and I hopped in here for a quick bite to eat and a drink before going for a hike at the state parks down the street and we’re both so glad that we did! The food tasted amazing and the staff was friendly! I do wish the cocktails were a little larger for the price, as my margarita came like 3/4 full and filled will ice, but it did taste good atleast

This was easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in 2025! We’re visiting from Chicago—where we’re spoiled with incredible restaurants—but this spot surpasses them all. If you haven’t eaten here yet, you’re truly missing out! Truly a hide gem. (Photo taken AFTER we started eating)

Ate here today with a group of people, the entire hallway to bathrooms and bathrooms were covered in nudity pictures. Then comes the food, their menu for a dive bar in the middle of no where is odd. The prices were even more ridiculous. I paid $15 for 1 large slice of texas toast cut in half and smothered in 2 different sauces and mixed in the sauce was bacon chunks, mixed greens, grape tomatoes. This was their version of a bit. No fries no drink nothing else. For $15 dollars. Then their pancakes were very dense and flavorless with a side of trout eggs and a hug lump of butter for $18 dollars. Im sorry but the food and atmosphere did not mix and the prices for what you go were ridiculous. I am from Chicago and traveled many places.

I don’t have a photo to share because we ate almost every plate clean! This place is the best meal in the Illinois Valley I’ve ever had. Unique, delicious, upscale food you don’t want to miss. We were there for our wedding anniversary tonight and it was a meal I can’t stop thinking about!
