Hidden gem. We stop every chance we get on our way to flagstaff or Williams. The food is so delicious. My go to is the chile relleno burrito! If you want to venture out of the regular carne asada, this is perfect. Not to say their carne asada is not a hit, because it sure is as well. Oh and their tortillas are amazing too!
Put this on your next road trip stops and enjoy!

The food and service here is always amazing worth taking a detour if you’re heading up north. Elvira is always there and she will take great care of you

I was stopped for gas on my way from Tucson back home to MO and I smelled the food and I noticed that trucks and other people were stopping all around even without getting gas to run over and get food. The staff was patient and friendly with this Midwestern guy, I got the beef baria tacos. You get 4 huge ones and a bowl of baria sauce. 1 giant Carmel Churro, and I git a brisket quesadilla to go. Next time I head down to Tuscon, I’ll go out of my way for this food.

Hidden Gem for Mexican Food Between Phoenix and Flagstaff!
I’m so thankful I found this place! If you’re ever driving between Phoenix and Flagstaff (or back), do yourself a favor and stop here. Hands down the best value-for-money Mexican food on the route. The food is incredibly delicious, the portion sizes are huge, and the staff are genuinely kind and welcoming.
A special shoutout to Alexis at the counter — he was amazing! I’m a pretty picky eater and mostly just eat chicken, but Alexis patiently helped me find the perfect dish. His friendly guidance made all the difference, and the meal he recommended was absolutely spot-on.
They were also super generous with extra salsa, lemon, and ranch, which is something you don’t see everywhere. It’s rare to find great food and great people in one place, but this spot has both.
Highly recommend it to anyone traveling on I-17. This place is now a permanent stop on my route! ❤️

As a trucker, finding a good spot to eat on the road can be tough, but this place was a lifesaver! Great Mexican food and quick service. It’s the only Mexican restaurant around, so it’s a real treat. there is plenty of truck parking so that was a plus for them so it’s super convenient. Definitely worth a stop if you’re hauling through the area.

This place is freaking great. The reviews aren’t lying. The quality is top notch and the people that run this spot are very hospitable. I got number 25 and even though I’m in the middle of the mountains the fish was great. Full of season and it went well with all the fresh pico and rice and beans. The fresh jalopeno went well with my meal. Will stop by here when I pass through next time. This is a spot I would come back to multiple times no problem

Food here is fantastic for a little joint inside a gas station. Right off the highway and quick. Pam was also a great help. Highly recommend if you’re coming north out of Phoenix.

I stopped by El Gordo and got a breakfast burrito, strawberry churro and steak street tacos. The service from Pam was excellent, she was very sweet. Nice smile and friendly with everyone she was serving. It was busy and I got my food quickly. Food was very tasty and they used good quality meat. Support this business, skip McDonald’s next door and get some real food. I will be back again. Kudos to the El Gordo team!

We pulled off the Cordes Lakes exit for a bathroom break. We just happen to see El Gordo nearby inside a gas station. It looked authentic, so we had to give it a shot. They were pretty busy with a couple people in front of us. We ordered the chicken, steak, and pork street tacos. They came with guacamole on top! Their tacos were some of the best, most flavorful tacos we had while visiting Arizona. The only regret we have is not ordering more!!

This was absolutely fabulous. We hesitated on stopping at a place inside a gas station. Seemed kinda odd but very few options. I would stop again if I were in the area. Wonderful service the meal was delicious. It was one of the best Mexican meals I have had in a long time. Worth every penny.
