This Maid-Rite in Tama/Toledo was on our “must go to” list on our vacation to see family in Iowa. Some things never change and the memories we had coming here with our (great)grandparents 20-30 years ago came alive. We love the maid-rites here. Onion rings are so good too. Wish we had room for pie. Grandpa used to love coming for fried chicken.

One of the best local places around. Good food, nice small town diner feel, very affordable prices, and fast/friendly service. What more do you want? There’s a reason the locals fill this place up for lunch time, it’s awesome! Not many places around anymore where you can get a meal for under 10 bucks, but this is one of them. Highly recommend.

This is a good place to go for something different. The service is always fun. They don’t offer any fresh veggies though. Strong smell of fried foods is a bit overwhelming. But they do have pie and ice cream. Prices are very inexpensive.

Fried food is always on point – you can taste and see that they clean their fryers thoroughly and use fresh oil regularly. If you’re traveling along this way it’s an affordable meal of excellent quality with great customer service!

Staff was nice and the food was ok, we had a Maid-rite with cheese. If you don’t know what that is, like myself. It is just loose ground hamburger put on a bun, it was messy but tasted fine. We also had onion rings, and deep fried cauliflower, they were ok to. It is just a small town place we drove by.

Good food, good prices and GREAT service. The first time I asked if they had rhubarb pie. The second time that waitress remembered and checked. No rhubarb. She then told me if I knew I was coming a day ahead, they would have a fresh one made. How about that?

This will always be my favorite Maid-Rite. This was my first Maid-Rite as a little kid when my family drove all the way from California back to Iowa for a visit in the mid 1990’s. This was my must-stop place when I returned in 2010, and it was still awesome. This is still my must-stop place every time I pass through Tama-Toledo area, because it is the best in my book!
The food is always great, but the service is what really stands out. They treat you like family here, and heck, if you know one person in Tama-Toledo, chances are you can find something to chat about with the folks here…they know just about everyone and everything that goes on in town. The place itself is, in food-snob terms, not the most elegant, its dated, and a bit worn out, but it doesn’t take one bit of anything away from the awesomeness that is this place, in fact, I think it adds to the whole deal! Don’t criticize them for the look of the place, but rather come in, try some great food from great people, sit awhile, chat with folks, and learn what a true Maid-Rite experience is! Oh, and you’d be foolish not to try a wonderful slice of pie while you’re there…that is, if there’s any left! It sells out quick!

Cheese balls = cheese curds; in case any Wisconsinites were wondering. They were okay, a little undercooked. My wife said the chicken salad was very weird but it seems like it was just a different recipe. Service was great! I want to go back and try some more menu items.

This place looks like it is straight out of the 50s or 60s. Service was good and the food was even better. Broasted chicken was delicious. Coleslaw was good. Maid-Rite and cheese balls were good as well.
