Cafe Du Jour was literally perfect for our impromptu date night. The food was absolutely incredible. We had: Pork Crostinis (out of body experience), Rolled Eggplant w/ Pesto Cream Sauce and Blueberry Croissant Bread Pudding for desert, with a bottle of white wine (byob).

When you walk in, you immediately get a burst smells that could only come from a proper kitchen, akin to the French Cuisine. The buttery, garlicky, smokey aromas filled the walkway next to the kitchen, where you’ll see the cooks preparing food with flames flying and spices burning at the tip of each flame.

We were the last to leave before closed- they were in no rush to make us leave. We had a chance to meet the owner, Paul, who shared his inspirations for the amazing Cafe Du Jour concept. He and the rest of his staff were friendly, accommodating.. you can tell there is a shared passion for the work that they do.

If you haven’t been here. You’re missing out. Hats off to Paul and the Cafe Du Jour team! Thank you!

PS- I never leave reviews. I’m for real about this one.

Cafe Du Jour is one of the finest and memorable restaurants in Pittsburgh, offering a diverse and eclectic menu. Their dishes are fusion delicacies with herbs and spices from Middle East, Europe, Asia, and then some. From farm to table, I had a side salad with an aromatic lettuce/ herb that I’ve never tasted before. Portions are ample, plating is beautiful, flavors are packed with culinary travels, quality of the ingredients are outstanding, and the owner Paul is the nicest guy in town! No wonder we’ve been going back repeatedly with no fail. Another tidbit – every time we take our out-of-town guests to Cafe Du Jour, it too becomes their favorite!

It was our first time experiencing the intimate ambiance and incredibly friendly yet assertive staff, and we were thoroughly impressed. Invited by friends before a show at the City Theatre, we were delighted by the diverse menu options, but the evening specials sealed the deal on our choices.

A creative twist on spinach dip left us tempted to lick the plate, and the perfectly prepared short ribs served over creamy polenta were simply unforgettable. Their innovative use of Venmo for payment is both convenient and clever—more places should adopt this approach!

The outdoor patio looks incredibly inviting, and we can’t wait to return on a warm evening to enjoy it. We’re already looking forward to satisfying our cravings for delicious entrees and experiencing their attentive service once again.

Update: Bilbo’s b’day, 2023. This place slaps. If you want to LOVE food (again), come here. Absolutely delicious!

Amazing food, great service, cool atmosphere. Is this a hidden gem on Carson? It shouldn’t be, if so. BYOB. Prices are good but prepare to spend more than you thought, because you’ll keep ordering

One word review: wow!

A bit more detail: this place has all the vibe of a Southside deli, because it used to be a Southside deli, but do not let first impressions fool you! It is BYOB the wait staff is great, but it is the chef who really shines here. The flavors are complex and intricate and interesting. We had the roasted mushrooms with truffled burrata, and while some places use those words as gastronomic calling cards, Cafe du jour actually delivered and created a wonderful dish with those ingredients. I also had the Oaxacan spiced chili con carne, and it was hot but complex and absolutely scrumptious. My wife had the cauliflower steak, and it was equally complex but nowhere near as spicy 🙂 She also had s green salad.

All in all, the food was top quality, reasonably priced, and beautifully prepared. The service was efficient and friendly, and these customers are coming back again!

Wonderful experience! A hidden gem. The backyard walled garden was intimate and romantic. All the dishes we got were delicious and so unique!

The pork chop (smoked and seasoned with numerous north African spices) was something unlike we’ve ever had. It was an explosion of flavor.

The service was more European style, not rushed and each item was brought out on its own.

We just had incredible takeout from here. Look at the pictures! These were our actual pork and eggplant meals out of the packaging. The food was fresh and filled with flavor. The staff were super friendly. Will definitely be eating from here again. Wow!

This is the best hidden secret in Pittsburgh. It is not cheap – but undeniably underpriced. This will knock your socks off. Come when it’s a little lighter out and ask for patio seating. Everything is delectable. Every detail is considered.
