Le French Dad is outstanding.
The vibe of this bakery may have shifted recently but I believe it has been for the better. I enjoy the expanded display case and gorgeous additional pastry options.
The staff is always warm and engaging but most importantly, the quality of their product is superb.
We had six pies at Thanksgiving dinner from various bakeries and home made providers. All of our guests unanimously agreed, Le French Dad’s apple tart pie was the #1 favorite.
If you want a bistro, go to Manhattan.
If you want supreme French baked goods, head to Le French Dad.

The pumpkin spice muffin with crème filling is absolutely out of this world and one of the best pastries I think I’ve ever had. The double chocolate chip cookies are also not to be missed! It is a very cute neighborhood bakery and the staff is always very friendly. Everything tastes like they use quality ingredients. Wonderful to have a place like this in the neighborhood.

RUN to this bakery!!! Authentic French bread and pastry also serving delicious coffee.
For pastry, I tried the apple turnover … OMGGG. It will live in my foodie memories for years to come. The pastry is perfect – flaky, buttery. The apple filling is perfectly cooked inside the tender pastry, soft and with a consistency like a thick, warm applesauce. It was unexpected and delightful! Also, there’s the perfect pastry to filling ratio. Paired with their iced coffee, it was an exceptional afternoon treat!
I grabbed a baguette to bring home … it barely made it to the dinner table. The baguette was genuine French style like you would have in France at a boulangerie. Outstanding!!
Check out this gem of a local business. It’s a gift to have such an authentic French bakery in the neighborhood!!

Hadn’t been to Montclair in awhile, stopped by here after a coffee shop over in Bloomfield. First: the space had been renovated – a much needed improvement. Much larger display area, much better lighting, and many more products than I remember (but maybe it’s just because everything is visible now instead of tucked behind the counter and cashier). The croissants were on par with anything we have in Midtown, and while I didn’t try the coffee, it smelled great. My favorite was the almond croissant, though the ham and swiss was a close second with a perfect layer of bechamel. The aesthetic improvement can’t be emphasized enough; last time I was here it reminded me of what I imagine a poor farmhouse in France would have looked like immediately following the war. Didn’t have time to stop at my original favorite – the doughnut bakery nearby – but the staff said the doughnuts here are made by them. Wish I’d had more room. We had a baguette to go but left it on the train. Oops.

After a long morning on the courts, Le French Dad Boulangerie is my absolute favorite reward! There is nothing like the smell of fresh bread when you walk in. I usually grab a couple of their almond croissants and a traditional baguette to take home—the crust and crumb are exactly what you’d find in a true Parisian bakery.

We’ve been coming to this bakery for years and yes it has changed owners. We have never had an unpleasant interaction with any of the staff. While the products have changed somewhat (more donuts) the quality remains the same. We always are greeted warmly and have been given great suggestions/recommendations of things to try. Shout out to Carianne – we make it a point to stop by just to see her.

I have to agree with other recent comments. This used to be my staple for pastries and fresh croissants. It looks as though they are under new management and while the renovation is modern and clean ..the establishment lost a lot it’s charm and authenticity. Now it looks and feels like a chain cafe. The new staff is not very pleasant. They are also not familiar with their products, telling me the item I usually purchase is ‘seasonal and only made a few times a year’. Um, madame, I get it every time I come in. If you are not familiar with the production, you can just say so. Sigh. It was good while it lasted

This is a wonderful French bakery with truly authentic French breads and pastries. I got a couple of loaves of fig and walnut bread that were discounted, and almond croissant that another customer convinced me to get, a turkey Brie and apple sandwich and I had actually ordered two croissants but for some reason they didn’t make it in my bag. I think there was a misunderstanding with the other customer; no matter, an excuse to return! The sandwich bread (a mini French baguette) was surprisingly crisp on the outside and didn’t at all get soft when I returned home 1.5 hrs later to enjoy it. Everything just looks and smells good. I look forward to returning.
