Whenever my family and I went to China Grill, it always felt like a special occasion. The team knew us well and would start our order as soon as we walked in. My favorite drink arrived right away, and every dish was prepared quickly, steaming and fresh. While I tried a variety of their offerings, nothing compared to the custom creation my brother designed: Sweet & Sour Pork with Tangerine Sauce. I was delighted when they mentioned they might add it to the menu, and I certainly hope they do! The staff was friendly, and I always found the restaurant to be clean and comfortable.

We originally planned to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant, but it was closed—so we decided to try China Grill instead, and I’m so glad we did! Everything was delicious, and the lunch combos were the perfect size. The cream cheese wontons with sweet and sour sauce were amazing, and the egg drop soup was so flavorful.

I ordered the sesame chicken, which wasn’t quite my favorite, but my husband loved it. He got the General Tso’s chicken, and that one was definitely a hit (I almost wanted to trade plates!). Our kiddo got the chicken strips meal, and I was impressed—they weren’t your typical frozen-style strips but actual good, breaded tenders.

The service was excellent—we were seated right away, and our server took care of us immediately. The food came out hot and fresh in no time. Overall, a great experience and we’ll definitely be back!

China Grill: A Hidden Gem in Salt Lake City Surpassing Expectations

Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, where there’s no shortage of excellent Chinese cuisine, I naturally have high expectations for Chinese food elsewhere. During our visit to Salt Lake City, we stumbled upon a modest eatery named China Grill. Despite its unassuming appearance and the food’s ordinary presentation, we were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional taste that far exceeded our expectations, making our dining experience truly unforgettable.

We ordered a variety of dishes, including Singapore rice noodles, spicy beef, sour and sweet soup, and egg drop soup. Each dish was remarkable for its authentic flavor and quality, particularly the chicken in the Singapore rice noodles, which was exceptionally soft and tender—a rarity in many places. Curious about this, we learned from the owner, Mr. 颜章, that the secret lies in marinating the chicken in a mixture of soda and water for several hours or overnight. This meticulous approach to ingredient preparation showcases China Grill’s passion and dedication to cooking.

More than just serving delicious meals, Mr. 颜章 was incredibly welcoming, sharing with us not only his cooking secrets but also recommendations for local attractions and his personal stories. In a world dominated by fast food and convenience, finding a place like China Grill, where there’s a genuine love for food and a willingness to engage with customers on a personal level, is truly rare.

For anyone visiting Salt Lake City or locals in search of the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine, China Grill is a must-visit. It’s not just about the food; it’s an experience filled with warmth, shared stories, and delightful flavors.

Updated: we came back on the second day. 干炒牛河 and kung pao chicken are good too.

The staff was very welcoming upon entering. We ordered “Togo” but the inside seating looked plentiful and clean. Food quality is excellent and you get your money’s worth. Food was hot and tasty (flavorful). They are able to accommodate for both the meat eaters and vegetarians. Would recommend trying. Price point is a little high but again meals can be shared.

We had passed by this restaurant s-o many times! But few months ago we went to try them out for the first time, and since then been there couple of time 🙂

We tried almost half of the menu items already. Everything tasted good (taste wise I would give them 4 stars) but not a big fan of their pho though.

Its a small but very neat & clean restaurant. Looks family owned (I might be wrong though). All the staff are very nice. I really like the amount of food I get for the price I pay for each items. Another wonderful thing is their Frequent Diner’s Card…you get one free item after $100.

Fresh, fast, hot, and good portions. The orange and general chicken were crispy crunchy and not soggy, each bite had a good chunk of chicken as well.

I had the lunch special and was very comfortable full when completed. Felt like the value was great for what I received and the food itself was wonderful.
10/10 would eat here again.

Must be under new ownership again!! This place has changed hands quite a few times from phenomenal to really bad back to phenomenal and back to really bad. Everything was freezer burned and had a grey tinge to it, the beef was thin and also freezer burned. Nothing was fresh!! Back to bad!! I’m so tired of COVID and how it literally has destroyed the restaurant industry! Seems to be a never ending battle!!!
