Great little (now expanded next door) place for Northern Vietnamese food. This place is packed so do try and get there early. My partner and I shared the spring roll dish which is my favourite here. Have tried other places but this place is on another level of flavour. To our surprise they have expanded to next door which has doubled their seating. Service and food are quick, plus the pandan tea is delicious. Definitely give this place a go

This place serves the best authentic Vietnamese steamed rice rolls with pork and woodear mushrooms. Portions are generous, the quality is consistent, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We also love their rice noodle sets, porridge and crab noodle soup — all delicious. Highly recommended!

During my visit to this cozy Northern Vietnamese restaurant, I had the chance to try a few traditional dishes, and overall, it was a delightful experience.

Bún Cá (18): The fried fish was perfectly crispy, adding a satisfying texture to each bite. However, the fish cake slices were a bit thin for my liking. I would have preferred more dill and a slightly tangier broth to enhance the flavors further, but it was still a tasty dish overall.
Bánh Cuốn (18): The rice rolls had a thin, delicate exterior, just how I like them, with a generous amount of filling inside. The balance between the softness of the rolls and the flavorful filling made it a standout item.
Bún Đậu (20): This dish was a true highlight! The variety of toppings was abundant, and each one was delicious. The combination of fried tofu, pork, and fermented shrimp paste really brought out the authentic flavors of Northern Vietnam. Super delicious!
Orange Juice (5): Fresh and refreshing, though a standard choice, it complemented the meal well.
This restaurant offers a great selection of Northern Vietnamese favorites, with generous portions and authentic flavors. I highly recommend it for those looking to explore the unique taste of Vietnam’s northern cuisine.

I called about 8 calls to make a takeaway order, but no one answered. I have a habit of calling ahead to order food so I can save time waiting. After that, I went to the restaurant and waited in line for about 10 minutes. During that time, I called two more times but she still didn’t answer the phone.

I told a cashier that I wanted to place a takeaway order. She told me to wait a moment because there were customers paying for their meals at the restaurant.

When it was my turn, I said I wanted to order 5 fish noodle soup to takeaway. She said the kitchen was very busy and that I would have to wait more than an hour. I also told her that I had tried calling many times but no one answered the phone. She said the restaurant no longer accepts orders by phone.

I asked, “So you’re not taking takeaway order, right?” and she nodded with unfriendly express. I immediately walked out of the restaurant. From what I observed, the number of customers dining in was not so busy that they had to stop taking orders as she claimed.

I am very disappointed with the service from this staff member. Even if the restaurant is busy, the way she treated customers and caused them to leave is something the restaurant should reconsider.

I’m deeply grateful to Banh Cuon Ba Nguyen – St Albans for safely keeping my lost handbag for 3 days. It had my ID, license, and $700 in cash. I had no idea where I lost it and was searching everywhere. Luckily, when I came back to eat, the staff kindly returned it — nothing was missing.

Their honesty and kindness touched me deeply. Not only is their food authentic and delicious, but their integrity is truly rare. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️

I have been to northern Vietnam in search of the best banh cuon and Banh Cuon Ba Nguyen in St Albans is as good as the original. The texture is thin and silky whilst still being chewy and springy.

I’ve had bad experience with take away foods from different restaurants but this is the first time I find it hard to tolerate to not give a bad review. Got a grilled pork & rice vermicelli with seafood spring rolls. It would have tasted good if I didn’t see a black streak on the dish of the salad. And it was not just few grands of sand but it was a big pinch of MUD! We all know that can’t expect the food/salad from restaurants to be as clean as home cooked food but this much of MUD IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! It disgusted me the moment I saw that big pinch of mud and wish I could threw up what I’ve just eaten! It’s not just dirty but disgusting! I wonder how their staffs wash all the veggies and food. Do they only do 1 wash for all?!? I will never come back here even though this used to be my fav restaurant for grill pork vermicelli until today! Never ever had that dirty disgusting salad in my life!!!

After watching videos about Vietnam on YouTube, I’m intrigued to try the Vietnamese-style breakfast – Bánh cuốn, which is a steamed rice paper roll with minced pork and mushroom fillings. Then I found #BaNguyen in St. Alban, which serves these northern Vietnam cuisines. I like their pork congee, where they cook the rice for so long until it entirely devolves in the broth. And, of course, the Bánh cuốn, which they serve together with fish cakes and the dipping source made by a fish source that is not fishy at all. The only drawback is the service, don’t get me wrong, the wait staff is not rude – but they kept forgetting the order despite they have came back to confirm twice on the order and yet, they still served the hot soy milk instead of the cold one that I ordered. So you may need to be patient with them when you go there.
