We ordered sweet and sour chicken. The best I’ve had in years. The container was over flowing. The woman and her son were very pleasant and took the time to talk to me. The egg roll was yummy. The lomain was delicious. Again the portions were over flowing. Will definitely order again.

JAN 2025 – Final Update 1-Star.
Used to love this place for over 20 years. Sadly, this last visit was our final one.
– Food is still bland, dry and mostly not good. Sure, they get a few things right occasionally, but very inconsistent
– Prices are going up
– “Lunch Specials” are putting less in, presumably due to “increased employment costs”. Folks.. it’s family run.
– THE BIGGIE – ** Shifty business practices ** — undisclosed fees, and even extra fees on CC statement! There’s the new $1 “Processing Fee” added even if paying cash. There’s additional auto-added processing fees. And then 3% extra was added to my CC charge that wasn’t previously disclosed when paying online.

In short — “meh” food and clearly a focus on increased profits vs quality business.

I tried and retried and tried again — sure do miss Irene and the prior owners — alas, we won’t be back here.

Best of luck to the no-longer-new owners.. I hope you figure out how to succeed the way you want.

SEPT UPDATE 3-stars for now. We’ve ordered since and no more “undercooked” and the heat and spice seem to be amped up much better from when they started in June.

I’m wondering if these are actually new/permanent owners, and the original owners (Irene and family) are not returning? Operations seem different and there’s a totally new POS system

JUNE 2024 UPDATE 2-stars, instead of 5-stars
The owners are temporarily away and new family is cooking and running operations. I need to update my review temporarily.

They seem nice enough; we’ve tried take-out from them twice now, and will NOT be back until the original owners are back in town. Here’s our honest feedback:

– Order 1 — all dishes needed more flavor, more spice/heat and more sauce. And the crabmeat rangoons were only half-cooked.. they were chewy instead of crispy and the filling was much sweeter than we’d ever had.
– Order 2 — Our tofu broccoli — had almost no broccoli and other vegi’s mixed in. And instead of the delicious steamed tofu cubes we’re used to, they used thinly-sliced fried bean curd which got rubbery/overcooked — it was at least sauced (yay?) and had good flavor, but .. lacked the Broccoli and the Tofu was totally different?! And our chicken Lo Mein — had zero brown sauce on it — it felt like unsauced dry cooked noodles?! Very underwhelming. I’m attaching a photo here which shows the noodles for reference.

We truly have LOVED Chinese Cookery and everyone there — and will Rejoice when the owners return! 🙂

Been eating here for over 7 years, and I enjoy it as the best take-out (or sit-in if you don’t mind very basic seating.. read: no ambiance). The steamed vegi dumplings are YUM, they have brown or white rice, and the Singapore Chow Mei Fun is *perfectly* spiced (other places are often quite bland!). Very consistant too.. love these guys!

Highly recommend!

I can’t rate other but food, as my husband brought it home.
I thought the taste of the broth of wonton was very good, the wontons were starchy tasty but did have good filling.
My husband bought beef and broccoli, the meat was fatty and chewy. They had no white rice, they used fried rice instead, along with lo mein which actually was all put together and mixed among everything. The food itself tasted oily and very salty. Couldn’t even eat 3 forks full of any of it. I don’t think I will be returning. For my 1st impression, there so many other great Chinese restaurant near by and make your food so you can enjoy it and not taste the oil it’s cooked in or stir fried and the salt content is you putting it on yourself. Sorry, I did want to give you more business, but can’t handle not being able to enjoy my once in awhile treat.

I used to order the Lunch specials from this restaurant an average of 3 times a week’s, but since the new owners have taken over the food has gone downhill. Service and Atmosphere are fine, but the food just sucks. I gave the new owners many, many chances, but I have stopped going altogether. Very sad.

My family has been loyal customers of Chinese cookery for at least 30yrs. They knew my mom by voice alone and ask how the kids were. We heard they were selling and we’re disappointed, but still glad there was a Chinese restaurant so close. Then we tried it under new ownership and it’s back to being really disappointed again.
The taste and quality is just not there, and it’s not even subtle. My go-to orders were crab egg foo young or shrimp and lobster sauce, with occasional fried dumplings. Dumplings were mediocre. I’ve had better at buffets. The egg foo young was like the absence of flavor, watery and oily. And instead of a rich flavorful gravy like it used to have, it’s a thick (what I assume) soy sauce based syrup.
The shrimp and lobster sauce had artificial crab chunks and I hate to say it with risk of being rude, but it was inedible. I tried. I added spices, even the sauce from the egg foo young, wonton broth, something to change the taste, but I had to throw it out. The wonton soup was ok. If I had a craving and didn’t feel like going far I’d order that.
But I’ll have to find a new Chinese place.

Used to get delivery from here in the past, but when I went in to pick up an order I was surprised how dirty and rundown it was. Fast forward to this month – I had heard it was sold and was very pleasantly surprised how clean and bright it is now. The nicest surprise was that they had my order waiting in an insulated bag to keep it warm – very thoughtful! Didn’t order much, but it was very fresh and tasty, and I will definitely be back.

disappointed. i started coming here as it is right by UB and have been coming here for 3 years. i noticed when i ordered today the taste, flavor, and just overall appearance of the food just was totally different. crab ragoons taste so different and i got the shrimp lo mein and it also was super different from previous times. i used to love getting food here because it was cheap and near my dorm, but i think i’d rather go somewhere else. overall it just is very bland and tbh spend your money somewhere else.
