Golden Bay Banquet (may also referred to as Grand Golden Bay – not to be confused with the Grand Golden Bay Bistro in Union City) is a Chinese restaurant that opened in late January 2023. This was formerly the location of King Kong Dim Sum. We are a family friendly restaurant that does dim sum (morning/lunch hours only) and a variety of other familiar Chinese dishes

Dropped by here this past weekend. We were here last when the restaurant was called King Kong dim sum.

We went early so there wasn’t a crowd, but as the hour went on the crowd started to form. Overall for dim sum it wasn’t overly packed.

The service was good. The waitress was friendly and professional.

The food was good as well. The dim sum came out fast and hot.

Overall a good place for dim sum that is affordable in the area. Next is to try this place for dinner.

I want to pick a NEGATIVE STAR if Yelp has an option to choose. Service is terrible, we reserved a table for a big party for new year celebration. When we arrived, they gave the reserved table to another party and told us to sit in 2 separate tables or wait until those parties were finished. Specially for the Mr. Server, he was not even try to resolve the situation and said nothing that he can do. It was hard for us to change to another location because it’s so late. The taste for the food was not good at all. Finally, Mr. Server pre-charged of 20% tips without our concerns. It was ridiculous experience and keep out of this restaurant if possible.

This is my favorite dim sum place. Their shumai is easily the best in town!

I was a bit skeptical about stopping by this spot because of the connotation of King Kong dim sum (the business that golden bay banquet took over). As I didn’t have a good experience. But to my great surprise, the food has improved so much and from my understanding, they have another location in union city!

For the price and flavor of the food, I’d definitely recommend stopping by. However, if you are looking for new and modern dim sum dishes I wouldn’t say that golden bay would provide that experience. They have more of the old and traditional dishes.

Some of my favorite items and highly recommend yall to order would be:
– deep fried taro root (not vegetarian – has pork intermixed)
– pan fried leek gor
– baked durian puff (i really appreciate this spot’s version bc usually it has a small lingering taste of bitterness at other spots but this spot is fireee)

tips:
– VERY limited parking so be prepared for street parking on the busy E14th street or on the side parking inside the neighborhood areas
– relatively quick service id say but at the same time your ordering would be through a wipable menu with an expo marker

Food was good but some dishes seemed to just be missing a little something. Service was excellent and the space is really big and well decorated

Good dim sum with some unique items! Less busy than a lot of other local dim sum places.

The food is a hit or miss. The steamed char chiu boa was good but the sui mai was bloated and the chicken feet was “puffy”, maybe old leftovers reheated?

The good is that there is never a wait on a weekend (hmm.. wonder why) and plenty of street. Sometimes less people makes for a nicer eating environment.

The bad is that they automatically write in your tip for you. Other restaurants that do this have signage somewhere, on the menu or table, but zilch here. I was surprised and asked and their reply was that they do so “on Sundays”?? It doesn’t seem to be a consistent thing and also there it doesn’t seem to be a set amount that you choose on the machine and appears to be at the whim of whoever took the card. When I did the math, it came out to be 16.27 %. It’s standard and not a crazy amount but I’d prefer to have it be transparent and standardized.

The food is quite authentic. I’ve went there multiple times and the dishes are very consistent. Decent taste, not too much flavor. Just right. Price is relatively affordable too if you are eating with multiple people. I would recommend this place to others.

We walked in and there were only 2 tables with patrons at them. One table had 2 people and the other had three. We sat down looked at our menu and by this time a gentleman sat at another table. We ordered within 15 minutes and we noticed a large group came in and sat down. They were served before all of us. Our dinner was delivered one entree at a time when it should’ve been all at once. After waiting for over an hour, we gave up on getting our last entrée and asked for the check. Our waitress was trying, but looks to be limited by the kitchen and priorities of other patrons. There was another staff member shouting and ordering the other staff around like she was a general. We would not recommend this restaurant.

It’s been ages since we’ve been here when it was King Kong. It isn’t as buzzing as before and in fact they’re much quieter.

But that’s perfect for us, came in for a late lunch on a Saturday and there were only a couple other tables. So we got seated and served right away! Can’t find that at most good dim sum joints.

Got the e-noodles with seafood in XO sauce as the main dish, and some dim sum dishes like the shrimp dumplings, durian puff, bean curd wrap etc. All came out quickly and were very good!

Parking is tricky as there’s only the front lot on this stretch of the street. So at peak hours you might have to park a couple blocks away or in the nearby neighborhood. Still a good option and we’ll come back soon!
