Fried rice was great – very flavorful, eggrolls were uniquely spiced and tasty, crab rangoons were good and sweet, soups were included (the eggdrop soup was really good). Only minor complaint is sweet & sour chicken has peppers; wished it had more chicken instead. Friendly service and quick takeout.

I ordered from the lunch menu and ordered Garlic Chicken lunch. Pick up time was 1:30 pm I showed up 10 minutes early to make sure it was hot and fresh. It was SO disappointing! I did take away, glad I checked it before I left, there no utensils. No big deal. Drove 5 minutes away, opened up the “Hot” and Sour soup. It was neither hot nor warm temperature or spicy wise. Disappointing. Next was the barely warm Spring Roll, not freshly made for sure frozen and shipped in. 0 for 2. 0 for 3 was the “Garlic Chicken”…More Like Garlic Carrots and Mushrooms… hardly any Chicken…So Disappointing…. I was the only one doing take out and no cars in the parking lot (one man eating in the restaurant, I assume the owner) I saw previous reviews that were positive…not here…there are plenty of other restaurants… you can’t get it right when dead quiet, you can’t get it right…Take your money elsewhere, Don’t chance it at China Cafe in Johnston!

This is some of the most reasonable priced, best quality Chinese food in Des Moines. Nothing fancy, just good quality Americanized Chinese food.
My favorite is the Kung Pao Beef. The sauce is very well balanced. I’ve not had anything that disappoints here.

Saw this yesterday and decided to give it a try.
Nice interior and decor.
Had the beef low mein and wife had a combination platter.
Tasty all around.
Close so will add to our visit calendar.

Fast, friendly service. The food was very very fast. Ordered two dishes and they were out within 10 minutes. The food were tasty and flavorful. The orange chicken was awesome, however, it lacks chicken. Just alot of fried fillers (breading). The chicken fried rice was very good. The hot and sour soup was delicious. I do not recommend the egg roll or crab rangoon. The egg roll was one of those processed factory made eggroll. It was soggy, mushy, oily, and super gross.
Overall, it’s above average for fast Chinese. However, I probably won’t try it again.

The food was amazing. I come in with gluten-free challenges and sometimes that can be hard for restaurants. But not this one, the cook came to help me figure out what would be the perfect meal for me and it was so yummy. Thank you so much.

In comparison to chopsticks down the street it comes in second. The portions were there however, just not enough meat in my opinion. Still the lunch menu is under the $10 mark and I would eat here again and stick to the sweet and sour chicken on the lunch menu. You can see in the photo how many carrots filled the plate. If veggies are you thing then you will like it. Recommend, Thanks for reading and if this review helped give a thumbs up.

I must confess I am a Cashew Chicken snob! I come from Springfield, MO, (Where Cashew Chicken was invented) and I love the meal there. That being said, I was excited to hear finally, after 23 years of living here. Someone had listed on their menu, “Springfield Cashew Chicken”. I will say it is close, but not exactly there yet; but they are better than anyone in Iowa I have tried, (And I have tried a lot! Ha).
Ok, here we go; this place is very nice, clean, service was very good (and always smiling). The food was Hot, fresh, generous portions, and delicious. This is my new spot for Chinese food, for lunch and dinner.

I always get chicken lomein in at any Asian restaurant I go to. This was by FAR the best! They didn’t hold back on the chicken. The egg drop soup was great as well, the egg rolls were also great!
