They’re opening a location in Upper Marlboro in the new year, I can’t wait to try that location, it’s closer.
Found by accident and it’s a favorite for sure!
I love the options the sit inside or outside. The location is great… quiet and relaxing.
I’ve been here about 3 times and have tried something different from the menu each time.
Great pizza! Great drinks.
I also saw and spoke to something about the Small Business support they do. I have yet to attend but it’s great.
It’s nice that they hang Artists work on the wall for exposure.
They also offer a small souvenir and gifts in the front. (See photos)
Clean and comfortable space (a MUST for me)
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Will be back again… Obviously!
Our food took over 60 minutes to arrive, and when it finally came out, it was cold and honestly disgusting. I was also charged for grits that I never received. Looking at my brother’s grit with all those vegetables and chives I wouldn’t have enjoyed it. The service was slow and inattentive throughout our visit. I asked the server to remove the unreceived grits. I was still charged.
The female owner was present, yet there was no real effort to check on our table or address concerns professionally. She actually spoke to a woman sitting next to me.
The atmosphere didn’t help. The restaurant was physically cold, yet there was a picture of a burning fireplace on the wall — just a picture, not an actual fireplace. It felt ironic and uncomfortable. The decor was very basic. From where I sat, I could see into the kitchen, and it looked chaotic. If you’re training a new cook, a busy weekend is not the time to do it.
Even the small details were off. The water glasses were tiny — about 8 oz, tall shooter glasses for a double shots — and the water was served in jars without tops, and it wasn’t even cold. Meanwhile, the glasses holding the creamer were larger and could easily have been used for water instead.
As for the food, it was not freshly prepared. When I sent my eggs and potatoes back, they were clearly not remade — they were reheated with cheese added. The bowl came back hot, but the eggs themselves were not warm enough to eat, which was strange. The potatoes were also reheated, not freshly cooked. Again, the bowl was hot, but the food was not.
The hot chocolate was disgusting. My brother did enjoy his French vanilla coffee, and his fish and grits were warm and not hot. I was able to eat the bacon and toast, but that was about it.
The classic Clinton and Fish and Grits with coffee and hot chocolate was $60, and nasty.
Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant.
They offer alcoholic beverages and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks, which was a bit surprising for a place that’s branded as a coffee shop. The scenery and aesthetic were totally my vibe—beautiful décor, trendy layout, and a space that feels curated for socializing and photos.
The food actually tasted great in the moment, but unfortunately, I ended up getting food poisoning afterward, which really put a damper on the whole experience. That aside, my server was wonderful—very friendly and attentive, which I truly appreciated.
Overall, Mix and Mingle is a beautiful venue with good energy, but if you’re looking for a chill coffee spot, this probably isn’t it—especially on weekend nights when it gets loud and more like a lounge. If they can improve communication about the events and double-check kitchen safety, it could be a real standout spot.
