I’m from SoCal, so finding Mexican food in the midwest that even comes close to SoCal Mexican food is challenging, but I was pretty pleased that El Rey had tortas. The chip salsa was flavorful, and the green & red salsa that came with the torta had a good kick. I prefer spicier, but at least it wasn’t bland. The torta wasn’t as full of meat and beans as I’m used too, but it was still pretty tasty and filling. I’d eat here again.

Have stopped twice just for a beer on the way home from riding on weekends. Feels different from last restaurant there… feels more comfortable. Love the outside seating; adequate shade, lit in the evening and it’s kept very clean!!! If the people and service is as good as it is just for a beer …. definitely going back to try the food!!

18 bucks for 3 chicken tacos and 20 bucks for 4 tacos de asada is just crazy. Especially when the food is over cooked, dry, tough to where you can’t chew it and soaked in grease. The tortillas were so soaked in grease from the meat leaving them so nasty. We couldn’t eat the food and just ended up throwing it away because the food was just so nasty and gross. Then spent the rest of the night feeling sick and wanting to throw up from taking a bite from it. The staff were so rude and mean about it to, the whole place just disgusted me.
