Service was fast and friendly.
Rustic atmosphere with a lot of interesting local memorabilia.
Definitely worth the trip!
We stopped by just after the evening rush and got seated in a very short time.
The decor consists of signs from past local businesses all over the walls and ceiling…the Coast-To-Coast sign has a special connection for me as my Grandmother worked there when I was a kid.
We started off with the Loaded Tater Tots that were pretty good but could have been really good had the cheese been melted and the bacon chopped up into smaller pieces…the Tots themselves were done very well.
The star of the dinner was the awesome Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. A crispy yet lightly breaded tenderloin cooked perfectly…it’s disappointing to get overcooked tenderloins as they become very tough…these folks got the timing down! Add on any of the pickles, onions, lettuce, and tomato served alongside to your taste and you’ve got a great sandwich!
We’ll definitely be back again!
As we ate, there was a boy set up at one of the customer dine-in tables bagging up frozen food while wearing gloves but eating food, drinking pop and texting on his phone at the same time. Very concerning when thinking about all the coding in place for sanitation and food handling seemingly being thrown out the window.
Also there was the boy, three teenage girls and an adult all up front being very obnoxious with shop talk and teenage attitude.
Overall the food was very good but trying to enjoy it inhouse was very difficult when you have to listen to the constant noise of bickering. We didn’t finished our food before we decided we had enough of it and got the rest to go.
If there was any music playing we couldn’t hear it over them.
We don’t plan to stop there again.
If you’re cruising through Grundy Center or you’re lucky enough to live there, Landmark Café is an absolute must-stop.
First off…. the beer? Ice, ice baby. Its ice Cold. The kind of cold that makes you question every life decision leading up to that glorious first sip. If Antarctica had a taproom, it would be jealous.
Now let’s talk chicken tenders.
Not frozen.
Not “previously frozen.”
Not “flash frozen for your convenience.”
These babies are hand-battered, golden, and so good they should probably come with a warning label for addiction. In today’s world of “press 1 for rehydrated nuggets,” this is a rare find.
And the ranch dressing as a dip.
The ranch was THE BOMB.
I’m talking “where-has-this-been-all-my-life” levels of ranch. Honestly, I’d like to know the secret sauce but that’s another review.
My only suggestion?
Give us a spicy dipping options! Something with a little kick. I love BBQ as much as the next midwesterner, but a man needs options. (Consider it my official plea.)
The server Gracie at the bar seating seemed new, but you could tell she was trying her absolute hardest, hustling with that “I-will-get-this-right-or-die-trying” energy. I respect that.
And the whole staff being led by Ashley, you can tell she is a true leader by the culture built with in the staff enthusiasm to be here?
Urgent to serve, smiling, and genuinely happy to take care of you. That’s rare these days.
Overall:
Cold beer ✔️
Fresh chicken ✔️
Bomb ranch ✔️
Friendly staff ✔️
Worth the stop ✔️✔️✔️
Landmark Café keep doing what you’re doing. I’ll be back, and probably for another round of that ranch.
