However, I have noticed that every other week there seems to be new people working there and the employees that were really pleasant aren’t there anymore. The new employees.. well..
Today i went to pick up a drink that looked to be only 75% full. I wouldn’t have thought much about it except the girl at the window kept looking at how much of the drink was missing and laughing with someone behind her.
Because I come here often and don’t normally encounter any problems, i figured it was probably okay. So i drove away but kept wondering in my mind why she was laughing and clearly referencing how much of the drink was missing (i hope they didn’t drink it).
Given how pricey these drinks can be, i decided i wanted to receive what i paid for instead of what she handed me. i turned around and asked if she could remake it. She seemed visibly bothered and her tone seemed like i was inconveniencing her.
After maybe 45 seconds she handed me a drink which was full now but if it were a “freshly” remade iced coffee, there would still be a slight warmth to it even with the ice. The drink was ice cold which tells me she most likely just added water or milk and then topped the whip cream off. Not exactly a remake, but i guess at least it’s full now?
I’ve been coming here two or three times a week but with the decline in customer service, I have kind of been debating whether or not to drop this place. I think i got my answer today. May just make the drive to Verb Coffee instead from now on.
First impression – as I pulled into the drive through around 11am (already 85 degrees), they had an employee standing outside the back door, in the FULL SUN, with a portable device taking orders. SERIOUSLY!!? In the background I hear the weather app on my phone, pinging with severe heat advisories. The employee was very gracious as she took my order and just smiled when I said she needed an umbrella or something. I asked for a medium roast coffee and said that I like something just a few steps down from dark roast with cream and suger… swiped my card and the coffee was ready to go when I got to the window. I was impressed that there was even a stopper in the cup and I didn’t even have to ask. I pulled back out onto Concord Parkway and took the first sip of what tasted like very weak, watered-down coffee. Then I felt the sensation of coffee dripping all down the front of me, all over my clothes, center console and seat. There was a HOLE in the front of the cup lid (See photo).
Sigh!! On a 1 to 10 scale of picky people, I’m probably like a 3. But, between having their employees standing out in the heat, the horrible coffee and the defective cup lid that cost me about an hour (had to return home to change clothes and clean coffee out of my center console and cloth seats), I won’t be returning to Canal Coffee!
