Stopped by to try the popusas, they were good! We tried chicken and it def had homemade flavor!
I loved the side of plantains with a little bit of sour cream ! You will like that I promise.
I had the chicken burrito which was big and with natural fresh flavors, tho i would have preferred a side of fries or something else rather than more chips…
We ordered an Empanada but didnt have a lot going on so If I come back it will be for more popusas or some tamales!

Finally found an El Salvadoran place. Not since Bitia’s in Sarasota, FL have I even seen an El Salvadoran restaurant. I thought it was just another Mexican outfit. That sounded great on 65° overcast Friday in September. I love surprises.
Wish it hadn’t been so cold inside, though. By the end of my meal I was definitely cold. Odd for me, honestly.
And the entrance to the men’s room was partially blocked by a storage rack & a hand truck. Never get a wheelchair through.
Otherwise, the place was very nice. Clean, good space between booths and tables. Music was in the background where it belongs. There is a small store-like area in ⁰the front.
After going over a very extensive and well laid-out menu, I had to get the pupusas lunch special ($10.99 before tax).
2 pupusas with rice, beans and a coleslaw-like pickled cabbage dish that I want a bucket of.
My pupusas are stuffed full of spinach and cheese, hot and fluffy. Delicious and hitting the spot on this grey day.
The rice is light and flavorful, the beans are terrific.
The service was very good but being called “boss” every time got a bit old. Need to mix it up a bit, guys.
One more thing: the water had an odd flavor to it, sort of metallic. Not off-putting but not normal, either. Might want to check that filter system.

Been back several times now.
The food still rocks.
The odd taste to the water is gone.
The temperature is no longer too cold.
The staff doesn’t call me boss anymore, either.
Now, if they can just get that rolling rack out of the way for the men’s room so that those in wheelchairs can get in. Well, they can use the women’s.

Today, I had the Guanaco platter #1. Good gravy, that is a bunch of food! I’d had nothing since lunch the day before so I was quite famished. After two tamales, fried plantains, rice, beans, deep-fried yucca (my new favorite thing!) plus chips & salsa, I was stuffed. In fact, it’s been 10 hrs since I finished and all I’ve had is some iced tea. It was that filling. It took two plates to hold it all. Worth all of the $20.

The food was pretty good, I would say it’s almost authentic as some elements were off. Consistency between photos listed on the menu and posted online isn’t there. I was most disappointed about the sour cream being american style sour cream and not crema salvadorena. The restaurant is clean just very cluttered. You are literally smacked in the face with a tree upon entering and exiting. Booths are super small, which made a tight squeeze especially with all the food we ordered. Felt kind of neglected for there being two servers and no one in the restaurant. I would say the prices are slightly high for what you get.

I had never been to a Salvatorian restaurant before, so I had to try it out. The food was good.
The empanada was excellent crunchy on the outside, so good on the inside. The tamale was just a strip of chicken inside the masa, rolled in a banana leaf, but the season’s was very tasty. The salsa didn’t have enough spice, but I love the fresh seasonings in there. The chicken stew looked wonderful.

I went here with my dad and my little brother to eat, figured it was convenient because he works in Pontiac and so it was an easy place to meet him along the way. I have eaten at both locations now, and I have to say the one in Auburn Hills reigns in supreme over the one in Troy. My pupusa dinner was absolutely amazing, my dad loved his nachos and my little brother had a cheese and chicken quesadilla. This place is wonderful and about as authentic as it gets. Please go to this place, and be sure to treat your server/cashier with much respect.

Limes without asking automatically gets 5 stars. I’ve had tacos al pastor from many different places and none come even close to El Guanacos! $11ish for lunch and what you get is such a good deal! I’m so thankful I work down the road from here!

A terrible place! Weight food, very fatty, bad attention…Absolutely not recommended at all!!
The girl who attended to serve as a waitress, because that was: a girl; she was zero friendly, bad treatment to the customer, and the cherry to the cake: she went wrong in my order carrying something that I did not ask for!
The food is awful! Too fatty, I asked for some lemons for my “tacos” and they were equally old and ugly as the place
