Delicious food and great experience at Pollo Bacano!

Stopped by Pollo Bacano in Zion and it did NOT disappoint. The food was incredible from start to finish. The empanadas were amazing—perfectly golden, crispy on the outside and packed with flavor inside. Easily some of the best I’ve had.

The tacos were also great, served fresh with well-seasoned meat, warm tortillas, and all the right toppings. The sides, including the rice and beans, were flavorful and made the plate feel complete.

The restaurant itself has a bright, welcoming atmosphere, with beautiful hanging flowers and décor that gives it a fun, vibrant feel. My daughter loved it and was happily eating her empanada the whole time.

Service was solid and friendly, and everything came out quickly.

Overall, a fantastic spot for a family meal or a casual bite. We’ll definitely be returning! Highly recommend Pollo Bacano if you’re in the Zion area.

I saw this place open, I just never had time to stop. I remember when it was the old burger place.

The old place had terrible ambiance, but this new place, is an enjoyable breath of fresh air. They bring some of the south of the border flavor and atmosphere to Illinois.

I had the Blanco bowl, basically a burrito without the tortilla. In a bowl! And it was wonderful. Just a couple of pepsis for myself, and two cheese quesadillas to bring home to my wife and son.

The new ownership of this location, put a lot of work into it. And I’ll tell you, you would never think it looked like it did before these folks acquired it. It’s amazing. The food is delicious, and the owners are very charming. And one thing I would like to say, when you’re trying to make a phone order, you never know what’s happening in the restaurant at that time. It could have been getting a delivery from a distributor. That is always priority. The amount you pay for your meals counts on it. If you want fast, try McDonald’s! If you want good, this is the place you need to be.

Fantastic food! The asada tacos were our favorite out of what we got, but that Arepa Bacano, wow! The tangy red cabbage balances the crispy pork belly, and adding the salsa verde that comes with it- *chef’s kiss*! Wash that down with the Colombian beer, and that’s a bit of heaven right there. On top of that, the place was spotless.

I’ve been wanting to try this place since they opened… Here’s my take on the steak taco dinners pros and cons:
Pros: authentic flavor and feel… The green sauce is fire… similar to the poblano cream sauce at El Camino Kitchen…. not quite that good but similar!!! Steak flavor is great… Seasoned very well…balanced perfect with the onions and cilantro.
Cons: portions are very small… 3 tiny street size tacos… Tiny portions of rice and beans for $15 is a little pricy for me…it was more like a $10-$12 meal…we got 3 of these dinners and one of them was filled with fat chunks in both the beans and the tacos… Very unacceptable at any price!!!
So to wrap it up I’d say it has potential and I will go back to try other menu items but they could definitely do better in multiple categories… Communication was a little sketchy but I’m a white dude from Waukegan so I can spanglish my way around that!!! 6.3/10

Absolutely wonderful. I really hope this place last. The half chicken was really good and my date loved her burrito. The chips and salsa was a great starter. The red salsa was my favorite and lastly the tortillas. Give me a dozen to go lol. The drinks were good as well. If you don’t feel like sitting down we’re getting out of the car they do have a drive-thru.

This place is like an upgraded taco bell, made from scratch. The tortillas shells and the salsa were good. The tacos we got were ok. We tried to order the asada tacos and they were out of steak, so I got the al pastor, and didn’t taste any pineapple. The waitress seemed annoyed that we were there, and would rather sit and talk with another customer instead of her do her job. We didn’t get our water refilled, and we waited so long for our chips and salsa that we thought that we weren’t getting chips. We then wait 15 minutes for the check while we watched her serve her friends not checking on us once in that 15 minutes. I was lured in by the positive reviews only to find the poor reviews more accurately reflect what you will expect from here. Very disappointing 40$ meal. Go somewhere else.

We are visiting from Texas and wanted a little taste of home and we found it. The guacamole was great, the al pastor tacos were yummy, and the half chicken was so juicy and flavorful..not dried out or bland. The waitress was so friendly and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and give them a try…you will be back for more! The pricing was good too. We just wish they had one in Houston!

The place was very nicely decorated. The staff was nice just not very attentive. There is one waitress for all tables and at dinner time that was a little crazy. The food was ok the chicken that I got was decent but bland. The taco dinner my husband got was also bland. The chips and salsa were very good. The tres leche loaf was great. Honestly this was an ok place it will be a one time place for me. I wish them well as they iron out the details. It just was not my cup of tea.

My family and I went on a Saturday right after they opened. We were greeted in a friendly manner. My wife and I were frequent visitors of the previous establishment at this location, and we were excited to try this place out. I had the two-piece broiled chicken, with rice and beans, my wife and son both had burrito dinners.

We all agreed that the main items were delicious; they said that their burritos were tasty and my chicken was flavorful as well. The sides needed some work, as the rice and beans were a little bland, but were serviceable on the whole.

The few problems we did have—server never asked if we wanted refills, took a very long time to pay—are not unexpected in a new place adjusting to their business patterns, and will probably get better in due time. We will definitely try it again once they have some time to work the kinks out, because overall the food was good.

The food is good but the service this last time was disappointing. I live a few minutes away and called them to place an order. A man answered and asked me to hold and set the phone down, I waited for 18 minutes before hanging up. I sent my son to the restaurant and when he got there, it was not busy and our order only took 6 minutes. My son mentioned me waiting for so long and the guy gave no apology or acknowledgment for the long wait. That’s the kind of service that will just have me go elsewhere in the future.
