Reviews
Based on glowing reviews and community support, the Shoals Shack has leveled up to a new, larger location, so we checked it out.
The format is a smart step forward – it is counter service like the previous location, but they assign you to a numbered table, then bring the order to you.
Our Order: Fried Cheese Curds, Loaded Onion Petals, Black and Bleu Burger, Shack Attack Burger
Hits:
1. Friendly greeting when we stepped in the door (and throughout our visit), plus helpful instructions on how to order.
2. Fried Cheese Curds were hot, providing the ideal cheese pull, well seasoned and the sauce was tasty – similar to marinara.
3. Their creative approach to flavor. We love to see experimentation, and the blackberry sauce + blue cheese was a nice example of that.
Single Miss:
If you’re one to order your burger less-than-well-done, you’ll find these a bit dry. It’s a small patty, which is difficult to cook fully and retain its juiciness.
More sauce on each of the burgers would’ve been helpful. However, for others who prefer a well-done burger, you’re good to go!
We look forward to following their social media to catch upcoming specials and we’ll certainly return to try other items on the menu. Until then, keep up the Local Food Fight!
The food was so good! There is a good selection of menu items including appetizers and sides plus the main entrees. The food is prepared fresh. It was served piping hot. The hamburger is ground there and prepared fresh as well.
I had the Shrimp Po Boy with Sweet Potato Fries. My friend had the Hamburger with Deep Fried Cheese Curds .
The Shrimp Po Boy was excellent. The bread was top notch. My friend enjoyed her hamburger and her fried cheese curds (which were delicious).
We will definitely be back. I highly recommend this unique restaurant. The service was good and the prices were very fair.
If you’re cruising through Florence, Alabama, looking for a white-tablecloth experience, keep driving. But if you’re looking for a “stop-in-your-tracks, rethink-everything-you-know-about-beef” kind of meal, pull over at The Shoals Shack.
It’s the classic local legend: a humble exterior and a no-frills dining room that prove one thing—when the food is this good, you don’t need a chandelier.
The Atmosphere: Simple by Design
The interior is refreshingly plain. You’ll find simple seating and a casual, “come as you are” vibe. It’s the kind of place where the staff treats you like a neighbor and the energy is focused entirely on the kitchen.
Pro Tip: Don’t let the long lines or the wait for a table deter you. In the world of Southern BBQ and burger joints, a line is just a visual glowing review.
The Menu: A Masterclass in Fusion
The Shoals Shack specializes in “Soul American” food with a creative twist. While the menu is packed with hits, here are the standouts from our visit:
• The Sweet & Spicy Burger: This is, hands down, one of the best burgers you will ever have. It balances heat and sugar in a way that feels like a cheat code for your taste buds.
• The Bella Burger: A savory, earthy masterpiece for those who want a deeper, Umami-rich profile.
• The Sides: We tried three different sides, and not a single one was an afterthought. They hold their own against the main courses.
Why It Works
Everything here is mouth-watering. Whether you’re diving into a traditional burger or one of their more adventurous fusion dishes, the quality is consistent. It’s high-octane comfort food that leaves you genuinely happy.
The Verdict
The beauty of The Shoals Shack is its honesty. They aren’t trying to distract you with decor because they know the first bite of that burger will do all the talking. If you find yourself in the Shoals area, you owe it to your palate to grab a bite here. You won’t regret it.

Food items sampled:
Kids Chicken Nuggets – these nuggets were a 10/10; hand cut fresh chicken nuggets that appeared to be freshly hand breaded and made to order. The kid left none behind!
Ryans Firebird – a spicy, spicy hand breaded chicken sandwich that is unlike any other chicken sandwich riding under the name Nashville Hot. The chicken is FRESH and made to order, cooked with a crispy coating while still being tender and moist with excellent flavor that isn’t just hot. A definite 10/10. The fire dragon convinced me to give it a sample and I was surprised how good it tasted even with the engulfing heat…
Mushroom & Swiss Burger – Great take on this classic burger; cooked and seasoned to complement the Mushroom/Swiss cheese and the garlic mayo with crispy onions. I will order this again and again and again. 8/10; could have had a tiny bit for mayo.
Pecan Pie Bread pudding – it’s not like the goopy diner bread pudding that I’ve sampled and chocked down because I couldn’t find a place to spit it out… This bread pudding is more like a pan of monkey bread topped with delicious caramel, pecans and whipped cream. The texture was spot on, nothing soggy about it. 10/10
Outdoor hamburger stand with walk up and online ordering. Restaurant only has 2 picnic tables for outdoor dining so this is mainly a takeout situation.
