So my weekend started off with a dinner night with my wife at outback steakhouse. It was the best service I’ve ever had in my 40 years on earth. And today my wife and I went to Helen and ended up at the hayloft for a late lunch early dinner. Turned out we were there mainly to sit waiting for our food. The staff was friendly the food was not the best. The owner I’m guessing anyway was not concerned that it took 40 min to get a burger and a kraut wurst to our table. He was more concerned about how much propane he had used to keep the patio warm. If the cost of the propane is that important. Maybe you should keep the patio closed till it’s warm outside. The only thing I know is that I’ve been to Helen several. Never eaten at the same place. And never had a good meal. So at least you are consistent with the rest of the places around. At least so far. I’m sure there is at least one place to get good food in Helen. And I’m going to find it.

THE WAITER TOLD ME WHEN MY HUSBAND LEFT THE TABLE THAT I SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH HIM WHEN HE DID NOT BRING ME MY FOOD, DID NOT CHECK ON US, OR CHARGED US FOR AN ORDER WE DID NOT GET. VERY DISRESPECTFUL!
My family and I started to enjoy our afternoon upstairs on the balcony. We were one of two tables to begin with and placed our order. It became apparent to us that our waiter was scattered, when he ran off without even saying a word after the last order was taken. Drinks appeared and then we did not see our waiter for awhile. Then our waiter appeared and placed food orders in front of my kids and husband. Then he ran off again and picked a plate off another table and placed my husband’s second order in front of my husband. The waiter then pointed to me as if he forgot my order and left again, never to appear. I NEVER received my order or our second drink order. My husband went to complain to the manager, who apologized. Then our waiter showed up with the bill without an apology and without saying a word and walked away. We checked the bill to discover that he charged us for my order that I did not receive. My husband left again to take the item off the bill. This is when the waiter appeared and basically blamed me for not communicating with him about the bill. I was too shocked to be upset. I said that I ate my kids’ leftovers and never received my order and you charged us. You are blaming me? He then said he was too busy and walked away. I am shocked how disrespectful our waiter was! The manager was no help. The atmosphere is great, but the staff need a lot of training!

Loved this place. Wanted to try the mozzarella sticks. These are not your regular mozzarella sticks! You must try these if you have a chance. The burgers are huge. Thick and taste great. We went Saturday afternoon before the action, which is fine since we just wanted a good meal. We sat outside at the upstairs loft with our dog. The staff and the owner’s kid were all great. Friendly and courteous.

We have been in Helen for 3 days and we’ve been to the Hayloft 5 times. We loved it here! The new bar is so cool! It’s built using rustic, unfinished wood that smells like freshly shaved sawdust. It adds a lot to the ambience! The beer is cold, the food is great, and the bar is always full of laughter. A must-stop if you’re looking for a great outdoor bar atmosphere. The place is really jumping when there’s live music.

Had the smokey mountain burger, wings and fried pickles. All were very good… burger was almost too big to eat. Pricey at $14.95, but I can see why… you certainly get your money’s worth. Nice atmosphere, good service.. we will be back.

Our server was really knowledgeable and friendly. She knew exactly what to recommend to me. The whole atmosphere of this place is amazing now that they have new owners. I highly recommend trying their pineapple upside down cake drink. It tastes just like a pineapple upside down cake. Also the fried okra was on point!
