First time visiting New China. The buffet was underwhelming in variety, but fresh and smelled amazing. I ordered from the menu. The serving size was great. I barely put a dent in it. The taste was fantastic. Coconut shrimp was a good choice for me. The spring roll was crunchy and delicate. The server was attentive and kind. I would visit again.

New China Garden offers a simple, straightforward buffet experience, and while it may not boast an extensive variety, it gets the job done when you’re craving Chinese food. The selection is limited, but the dishes they do offer are decent and satisfying enough to hit the spot.

The staff is a highlight—they’re friendly, courteous, and make you feel welcome, which adds to the overall experience. While the food isn’t exceptional, it’s good enough to satisfy, especially if options in the area are limited.

If you’re looking for a quick, no-frills meal, New China Garden is a decent choice. It’s not gourmet, but as they say, it’s better than nothing!

The first time I ordered from here, the food was pretty good, nothing to really complain about.
The last order my beef was grayish colored, it lacked any signs of searing, which I find incredibly odd for how hot those woks get..
I can guess on why it was the way it was but regardless that was it for me .

Went to China Garden in Chelsea on Christmas night for takeout. Seems like everyone in Chelsea had the same idea – they were slammed with every type of order (call-in, online, walk-in, Door Dash) and the staff were working so hard to take care of everyone as quickly as possible.
I made it home with our order and everything was hot, fresh, and delicious.
Thank you, China Garden, for being open for business on Christmas Day! I hope 2026 is a phenomenal year for you! We will be back to see you again soon! Merry Christmas and thank you again.

I’m so glad to see the lunch buffet return!! It’s a great deal, and the best way to sample and resample just some of their selection. It’s endured while other Asian restaurants have come and gone. Locals support and love great food and service! Highly recommend the orange chicken and crab rangoons.

Have eaten here for years in Chelsea. I’ve never had a problem with taste or service here. I mainly get take out here. Food is always well prepared, fresh tasting, and enjoyable.

This China Garden here in Chelsea Alabama has very good food but I do have to rate the restaurant 3 ‘s!!

If you enjoy eating in an “UNCLEAN” 1960s nostalgic/makeshift DAYCARE-TYPE setting while listening to LOUD “NURSERY RHYME” music playing in Chinese your entire visit,
THEN this is the place for you!

The reason why I only gave the restaurant “3 STARS” is because of their lack of cleanliness and lack of professionalism in the dining area.
From what we could see of the kitchen, that area looked a lot cleaner, but then again, that was looking through a door from afar.

The whole dining experience felt as if we were back in time, to the 1960s era.
The establishment was not filthy dirty, but needed a good scrub down, most definitely.
The restaurant seemed as though a new owner had purchased the restaurant back in 1968 and left the restaurant to sit furnished and untouched for the next 54 years.
The new said owner decides to open the restaurant up after it had sat for that long period, without making any improvements or cleaning, dirt and all.
Our booth and the benches that we sat on, felt as if there was a light film of “grime” covering them, as did the rest of the tables, booths, and chairs.
All the tables have sweet and sour sauce in a jar to use. Our jar was stuck to the table .. Picked up the jar and there was a sticky ring where it had sat in one spot for who knows how long. The entrance glass door, could barely see out of it. Most of the windows were the same way.

Last but not least, the makeshift Daycare …
As you walk into the dining area and straight ahead, there were at least four or five HUGE toys (toddler kitchenette), etc. all piled together with a bunch of little toys as well.
The loud nursery rhyme music playing in Chinese throughout the restaurant, was not pleasant at all, to listen to.
(If it were in English, I would feel the same way).

This China Garden gets a lot of take-out/drive-thru business because the food is good. I’m not sure why carry out is busier. Is it because they have seen the inside and got disgusted as well or the customers are just too busy to dine inside. Btw, we were the only ones there at dinner time.
…Once you see the crud on the inside, it makes you wonder if the kitchen is clean or not.

Had the lunch buffet for $11.99. The dining area was very clean and the service was good. Unfortunately the food was not that great. The best thing on the buffet (IMO) was the egg rolls and spring rolls.

Ordered last minute for dinner. This was our first time trying and this was the worst takeout Iv ever had and I’m a huge fan of Chinese. Spaghetti noodles for lo mein is crazy . Ordered two different chicken options and they both tasted the same with little flavor on it. Very little . Same for fried rice. Practically white rice. Never got the egg rolls either but I doubt it would have mattered. Gave me sweet and sour dipping sauce. Not worth the price or the hype. You people with good reviews are insane and lack taste buds
