Service was quick and friendly. I was glad we got there around 5, because it was filled up with a wait about a half hour later (on a Saturday).
No apps this time, we just did the chips and salsa. It’s $1.50 for them, which is cheaper than other local places. The chips came out warm, and the kids and adults both liked the salsa.
For a main, I got the enchiladas suizas, which I was very happy with. My husband had the carne asada, which I thought was a tiny bit too salty, but he ate it all happily. We both liked the beans and rice on the side, too. A bit more tame than some, but a nice compliment to the main dish. The portions were good, with me having one leftover enchilada and my husband finishing all his food off.
For drinks we had a sangria with fruit and a margarita. The sangria was yummy and had lots of fruit in it. My husband liked his house margarita, and wants to try other versions from the menu.
We’re both excited about the addition to Charlevoix, and as we were leaving, we were already planning our next visit! I’m also currently thinking about snacking on that leftover enchilada, even though I’m quite full still….
I’m including pics of the menu, since I didn’t see any online yet.
Everyone has grandmas recipe for tamales and mole is a regional sauce that changes wherever you go, so both of those I use as my test of how authentic a place is as I travel North America.
The tamales were loaded with well seasoned pork and lightly encases is the cornmeal. The meat to cornmeal ration was more meat heavy then most places. The mole was more a Mexico City style and lighter with more of a hint of chocolate and less heat. It paired very well with the chicken enchiladas.
Since the frozen tundra was in full effect, we also tried the chicken tortilla soup and that was fresh, delicious and even came with avocado!
The fajita nachos were light and a perfect sharable. Seasoned well but not so powerful to overpower the queso.
The Birra tacos were double shelled and it took away from the meat and made it seem a little dry, the dip helped but the meat needed a little more moisture.
They also made a special Diablo salsa for me that was chipotle fiery and paired well with the meal and margaritas.
Oh and the kids meals are fresh clean and cost conscious!!
We will be back for sure!
Service will get more efficient and better with time. Out server was super nice but forgot things because she is new and learning
And the Atmosphere needs some more color and flavor to it. Maybe something La Catrina?
The Fajitas Tropicales looked amazing on the menu and just as amazing on a plate in front of me.
The grilled pineapple added a delicious change to fajitas.
I’ve never had pineapple as a fajita ingredient…and after eating it I am surprised because It was really very good.
We had a variety of plates around the table and all were enjoyed. Nothing too crazy just good food.
We finished up with fried ice-cream and churros. Both were very good.
