We wanted to try a new breakfast spot while staying downtown, and Early Bird popped up as a great option. After reviewing the menu, we were excited by the wide variety of choices, there’s something for everyone.

Our waiter was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and clearly on top of his tables, which made the experience even better. Beyond the food and service, the branding really stood out. The typography is thoughtfully done, the color palette and bird logo is simplistic yet charming, and even the napkin design was incredibly cute. It’s clear a lot of intention went into every detail.

Overall, Early Bird offers a wonderful combination of great atmosphere, solid service, and a menu worth exploring. We’d absolutely return.

We were on our way to another breakfast place and drove past Early Bird. We’d heard of it and never been, so we decided to change our plans and stop in. The gentleman who greeted us was so friendly and clearly enjoys his job. He got us seated with menus and took our drink orders. We needed a little extra time to order since it was our first time. I ordered the Early Bird Combo (2 eggs, choice of meat – I got bacon – and choice of pancake or French Toast – I got the French toast). My spouse ordered the El Gordo Morning Burrito (in a bowl) and a side of the Farnum French Toast. Oh.My.Buds. That burrito bowl is heaven, that avocado crema is DELECTABLE. Our server was friendly and prompt, she kept our coffee full and checked on us appropriately – not too much, just enough. They have a dedicated parking lot and we got there before the usual rush. This is a new favorite breakfast spot.

Breakfast perfection served to us by our culinary guide Michelle S! Sit in a booth, ask what’s GREAT, listen to the recommendations (all of the Menu, essentially), and enjoy a great start to the weekend! We’ll be back soon and often…

Great experience. I arrived early, before 7a, and sat at the counter. Michelle greeted me warmly and throughout my visit was attentive but not overly so. Michelle went out of her way to make sure everything was just right. I asked for my toast to be well toasted and buttered, and that’s what I got. Exactly. She also made me a great Latte (more on that later).

The restaurant is bright, colorful, cheerful and very welcoming. There is seating to suit any party from small to large. I ate at the counter which is spacious, and there are free standing tables and booths as well. Very clean and very well organized.

Beyond the regular menu they also have a seasonal fall menu (see photos) with some terrific options. The breakfast egg roll looked especially tempting.

I ordered a fancy Latte which was BIG and delicious. A huge improvement on standard diner coffee.

The menu is diverse and creative. The selections are entertaining to read and quite inviting. There’s a Philly cheese steak breakfast sandwich in a bagel which I was tempted to order, but instead I chose the make your own omelette so I could taste a variety of foods. I ordered a Philly steak, pork shoulder ham, and diced sausage omelette with pepper jack. Totally off the chain. Served with hot buttered sourdough bread and hash browns, this is an amazing meal.

I’ll definitely visit again when I am in the area.

Early Bird in Des Moines, Iowa is an outstanding breakfast and brunch spot that truly delivers on both food and atmosphere. On our recent visit, we were seated immediately with no wait, which is always a pleasant surprise for a popular breakfast place. The restaurant has a stylish, well-designed interior with cute, modern décor, and there’s also a nice outdoor patio for those who want to enjoy their meal in the fresh air. Everything felt clean and inviting, including the restrooms, which were spotless.

I decided to go all-in with the Big Breakfast Bloody — their take on a Bloody Mary that comes fully loaded with a breakfast sandwich and tater tots right on top. It’s truly a whole breakfast in a glass, and the presentation was nothing short of amazing. The flavors were just as impressive as the look, and it made for a fun, memorable start to the day.

My wife ordered the avocado toast, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Service was prompt and friendly without being rushed, adding to the overall relaxed vibe.

Before leaving, we checked out their gift and merchandise area, which had plenty of fun Early Bird swag — a great touch for visitors. If you’re looking for a creative, delicious breakfast or brunch in Des Moines, Early Bird is a must-visit. Highly recommend for both locals and travelers.

Checked online to do the waitlist, said there was no wait. Called to make a reservation for table of 8 and no one answered and phone system said no reservations needed for less than 10. Came in and said 8, hostesses immediately were stressed giving them amount in our group. Said they were getting table ready, came back and said that 2 of our party of 8 would have to sit separately… said we would wait for table and was told it would be 20 minutes. 30 minutes later they said a party of 5 next to a table that could have been made for 8. Then was told it would be another 15 minutes. Food is great but service is terrible when it comes it getting a table for larger than a 4 party. They need a better system or something because that was terrible waiting 50 minutes for a table of 8. Table was wiped off with what smelled like dirty dish water. Took 20+ minutes to get drinks out, including a child’s apple juice. Breakfast Crab rangoons had no filling in them. They also ran out of breakfast potatoes 3 hours before their closing time. Will try another location and hopefully it will be better than this.

This is an amazing place for breakfast.
There was only one staff member taking orders, and I had a little wait for them to take my order. But the food was delicious.
The service was great other than the wait.
Enforcements arrived while I was still eating.
Come early and avoid the wait – opens at 6:30 a.m.
Place is clean
Restrooms were clean
Pricing is reasonable.
