The Sopapilla restaurant in Española, located on North Riverside Drive, is not affiliated with the Sopapilla restaurant in Pojoaque. The interior boasts a simple, retro local eatery aesthetic, enhanced by paintings from local artists. This unpretentious atmosphere was a definite plus.

My server was exceptionally personable and attentive. I chose the Plato Mixto, but unfortunately, the beans tasted like they were from a can rather than fresh. On a brighter note, the Spanish rice and tacos were very good. The green chile, however, was a letdown, being very mild with almost no spicy heat.

Overall, while it’s a decent restaurant, considering Española’s high standards for local eateries, I’d rate the Sopapilla restaurant as middle-of-the-road in terms of food quality and pricing.

My husband enjoyed his beef taco plate. I “think” I had a beef taco, chicken enchilada and pork tamale slathered with green chile. Of course, we ended our meal with sopaipillas slathered with honey.

I heard good things about this place from my parents and a friend of theirs who told them about it. I hadn’t gone sooner due to life but I really wish I hadn’t waited so long. The food was exceptional, the staff was welcoming and friendly, and the red chile was phenomenal. Literally, never in my life have I had such fantastic red chile. I’ve tried almost every New Mexican restaurant from Albuquerque north and none can compare. The sopaipillas (the correct spelling, I’ll fight anyone who disagrees) were perfectly cooked and complimented the meal perfectly. I had the posole with red, my wife had the enchiladas Xmas, and my daughter had the kids taco plate and it was all good. Absolutely recommend this place and we will be coming back again!

Stopped here because we were hungry and it was a good little find. I had the chicken enchiladas which I had “Christmas.” The red and green chile have very good flavor and are not too hot. The plate comes with rice, beans, salad, and pozole. The sopapillas are soft, tasty, and big! My wife had the green chile cheese enchiladas and they were good, too. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We definitely recommend this place.

The food was requested smothered Christmas. I got dry uncooked potatoes and some kind of beef not steak cut some ham slice looking meat for steak and eggs. I got sides for chili. Small very small table spoon size. The red was hot. So there’s that. Had to have pirates remade took forever. Never go there again but I did try it out.

The remodel and environment is pleasant and no wait to be seated. Wonderful selection of food and excited to try more items. The chile is HOT but very tasty. The Chile con queso wasn’t the best but overall nice new restaurant for our area.

Great place. The service was excellent and so was the food. Party ordered a mix of items, including the combination plate, carne asada tacos (absolutely perfect), and the combo beef and bean burrito Christmas (photographed). Sopaipillas are massive and cooked perfectly. Red Chile had a good kick to it and the green was mild and flavorful. There’s ample parking. It’s connected to the hotel it looks like but didn’t have any issues with that. The vibe is cute and quaint, we went on a early dinner weeknight and the place was not busy which was actually pretty nice, but I suspect the place can get busy during the weekend and peak hours.

Great food and excellent service. Will definitely start taking out of town visitors here for New Mexican food. Both the red and green chile were on point! While the interior of the restaurant doesn’t have frills or flair the food was worth the visit. Putting this is our regular rotation.

My family and I started with the guacamole & chips. It is fresh & delicious. I had the combination plate, it was a lot of food & enjoyed it all. The red chile was a little spicy for me & the green was more mild. Christmas is the way to go. My family enjoyed their dishes as well. We didn’t order dessert, but the sopapillas were perfect to end our meal

1 year ago, when I moved here, this was the restaurant that introduced me to New Mexican food. Since, I’ve tried multiple others, and this place is still my go to. The food is cheap and excellent. The service is good and friendly. The atmosphere is the right one. Their sopaipillas are wonderful. For some restaurant attached to a hotel, this place is incredibly good.
