AMAZING. A GEM on the island! Also really good pricing for what you get… They ran out of brisket by the time we got there. So, I ended up getting the ribs and my husband got the fried chicken. Both were sooo good. Ribs were tender, and the fried chicken was crispy and delicious (the breading was just perfect). Make sure to try all their sauces!

Our first stop on Orcas Island after exiting the ferry was Matthew’s and we are glad we did. Arrived about 5:30 and were able to immediately order. When we departed, there was quite a long line and the parking lot was nearly full. It was a Friday evening. The brisket – seriously – was some of the best I’ve ever had. It melted in your mouth and you did not need a knife – just a fork- to pry it open and enjoy! My husband enjoy his pulled pork sandwich as well. We sat outside on the patio on this beautiful June evening and the music they had playing was actually awesome.

As always, Chef served up a delicious meal. Brisket was amazing, pulled pork sandwich was the best I’ve had in the area, and the ribs, although cooked just a bit long for what I prefer the flavor was perfect. (Edit: The rest of the group has informed me that I don’t know shit about ribs, they were perfectly cooked.) Will eat there again, and again.

I got the brisket plate. Side of Mac and cheese, cowboy baked beans. Brisket was fantastic. Nice bark Moist and falls apart as it melts in you mouth. M&C along with the beans were a perfect compliment. Live music and a cold beer with delicious food on the grass is my kind of bliss. Thanks guys!

We were staying right next door so we decided to pop in and get some BBQ.
Some of the more scathing reviews are a little ridiculous, come on people. Was it the best BBQ I’ve ever had nationwide? No, but they made some really solid stuff!
The brisket was tender and flavorful and the ribs were solid as well. The rub/seasoning for the meats tasted more subtle than I would do at home, but was still flavorful.
For sides, I loved the collard greens, beans & fries.
The mac & cheese could have used a little more flavor/seasoning to make it pop but was still pretty decent. They did a couple homemade sauces that were very tasty!
Really worth a stop if you’re craving some good BBQ and on the island.

The good, the collards are excellent, the BBQ sauce is spicy with black pepper, very nice. The Mac and Cheese was blah, the corn was cold and average. The meat was bad, clearly sat around for FAR too long ribs dry like cardboard, brisket dry like rawhide, it was all like warm. The place has 100 people here, you cannot cook BBQ 1 day a week and serve it. BBQ that sits around goes to shit. Cook it and serve it, it was likely good when you took it off the fire. I recommend going anywhere else.

Our pulled pork sandwich and fries came out kind of cold, so that was kind of a bummer. And I thought it was odd that they have black beans rather than baked beans, to better fit their BBQ theme.
Overall, a pretty good place. Also the live music was absolutely lovely.

Matt’s BBQ is absolutely delicious! We not only have eaten at his restaurant, but we also had him cater our wedding on Orcas Island! Our guests agreed with us that the BBQ was exceptional and not just ordinary BBQ. The home made sauces that he makes are so delicious as well. Would definitely recommend eating here.

We enjoyed our time at Matthew’s Smokehouse! The staff was super nice and the service was great! We tried the pulled pork and the brisket. The pulled pork was ok, but the brisket was superb! Combine that with their delicious Kansas City BBQ sauce and it’s a real winner!

The brisket was better than at my wedding at Roche Harbor. But still not as good as in Texas, so I have it pretty hard being from there. Overall, I did enjoy it. The ribs were probably the best, pull off the bone.
The outside patio and view were great. The hornets are really bad this year so they swarmed our food and got a couple bits of meat then went on their way. No point in fighting them.
