Absolutely amazing. Second to none
A must try if you love tacos.
TLDR version
It is the most authentic family run taqueria experience I have had in Texas in a long time.
Walked in and it smelled like my Abuela’s house. The brightly colored plywood, hand written menu, and beautiful family art/aesthetics presents the Mendez family’s amazing taqueria.
The Barbacoa Tacos were phenomenal and probably one of the best I have ever had. Handmade tortillas, the meat is not to greasy or dry. Soft tender meat that isn’t mealy or tired, but has soft melt in your mouth feel. I sincerely appreciate barbacoa that isn’t a greasy disaster.
The green salsa that’s comes with it, is a pleasantly spicy but not overwhelming salsa.
Got a few other tacos staples like the chorizo and egg and their Mendez special. The Mendez special is definitely for the Taco heads who like that greasy messy hangover taco. Packed with spam, potatoes, cheese and all things breakfast, it shines through your soul. Literally it glistens in the right lighting.
The other items we had a chance to try were amazing.
This is our new spot everytime we come through the area and I highly recommend it as a destination taco place for any taco aficionado.

Server didn’t know they had lemonade it says they do on the menu. Menu says they have chips and salsa starting at 11 It was noon no chips and salsa but they did have nachos..when I read the review about microwaved nachos we paid for our “sweet tea” and lemonade. I’m sure their breakfast is on point but the server and menu were not.

Don’t let the exterior fool you! Inside, the staff was welcoming, the food was great, and the atmosphere was homey. Prices are comparable to big chain dinners if not a bit lower here and there; but any chance I have to support local business I take!
My family and I were so hungry and the food smelled so appetizing that I didn’t even think of talking pictures of the food!

Wow.. Amazing food and amazing service. Food was hands down the best I’ve had in awhile and I live in San Antonio, Tx. Dolores made us feel like we’re at home and didn’t want to leave! Will definitely travel more than once a month to enjoy this place… A perfect ending to our family vacation sisters and Mom ❣️
