Loving Detroit’s mom-and-pop restaurants. Steve’s had always been one of my favorite soul food restaurants as a kid. I was in town and downtown, so I decided to give them a try. Ugh, not like it used to be. First off, my dressing was cold and super salty. Then my meatloaf was overcooked. It was so dry and stiff and SALTY. I will say my corn muffins, yams, and mac and cheese were palatable; I just needed it to be hot, not lukewarm. The girl who took my order was nice, and they did need to give the place a nice wipe down and sweep. Come on Steve, you gotta go back to how great the food was when you were on Grand River.

First off let’s start with I did not do a proper follow up on a reservation for 11 AND still the hostess with the mostest made it happen for 12 of us in a packed restaurant!!
Start with the amazing drinks!! Made to order sweet potato pancakes reminded me of Gloria and Ivy whom I lived with in 3-5 th grade. Amazing!! Taste of home for real!!
Buffet line kept up continously, fresh, hot, kripy.

We reserved a party of 22. There were only 4 people in the restaurant when we arrived. We did arrive a little early so the initial wait wasn’t bothersome. We still had guests arriving. Paige, our server was good. I feel like she did her best given the situation. However, the food was subpar. Everything was served in to-go containers. It seemed the sides had been sitting in a warmer for some time. We were told it was fresh. Only 2 people got fresh mac. The rest was old and seemed to be scraped from the bottom of the pan. The bartender had been sent home shortly before we arrived to return for a party later in the evening. When we took our concerns to management they initially did not care. Later we were told that they were not given the information about our party coming in so they weren’t prepared. Then the event planner or DJ, not really sure who he was, comes in and tells us we are on his dance floor. Sir, move around. There were tables and chairs here when we arrived. We were told we could sit here. We were almost done eating after waiting a long time for our food. He started setting up equipment right next to us. I really wanted this to be a better experience.

Came here for Suga Js Juke Joint. Didn’t realize it was at Steve’s Soul Food but anyway.. Three floors of fun.. old school on the top, live music in the middle and house on the first floor. Very nice mature crowd DJ was killing and it the food was good. I had the chicken wings and fries and the outdoor patio is nice. Will definitely go back again.

Food: Amazing! Perfect amount of flavor, love, and amount of food! This was my first time trying & I will be returning on the weekends when they have $40 all you can eat breakfast! Thats an amazing deal for amazing food & I appreciate this business for the support of my friend in at her graduation party!

I was invited out to a birthday party on the 3rd floor over Steve soul food restaurant. After the party, I decided to go down and get some food. I ordered 8 chicken wings, a side of Mac and cheese and a side of French fries. They said I had to wait 30 minutes before we can get our food, I said okay. And the total of the food was $28.72. And when I was called up to get the food, the fries was cold. The wings was hot… but they had nothing on them but feathers and that was very disappointing, and my Mac and cheese also was cold. They were overly priced. And I will not be going back there ever. Plus the customer service was really bad! I do not recommend this place!

The smiles say it all. Good food. Good service. Good atmosphere. Coming from Atlanta, I wanted to try soul food from a northern perspective. I wasn’t disappointed. I tried the catfish with Mac n cheese & collard greens as side. Bonus: them muffins on point!! Don’t get me started on the kool-aid. (OH yeah)

We went for lunch special take out but ended up dining in because it was so nice. Comfortable booths and regular tables or bar. Watched big screen TV while eating and talking with my husband. Didn’t wait even 10 minutes for our food that came with cornbread muffin NOT like Lyv detroit where you pay double for meal and have to pay for corn bread muffin. Food was great bur I would come back due to excellent service. Lady brought our plate and said i put your peach cobbler in the oven so it will be hot and fresh once you eat your meal. 2 other ladies came to check on up. Refills only $1. Gratuity is your choice not adding 18% like Lilly detroit whose service was a zero. Plenty of parking too. We will be back and bringing others.

We missed the brunch and ate at Steve’s. Everything was delicious! The portions were good size, yummy sides and they even have rib tips. It looks like a good game day spot. The outside can host many events. I love to see black people thrive

Today I got lunch and ended up with an auntie Keke! I have never felt more welcomed and loved just getting lunch. Not to mentioned my auntie Keke put both her feet in that food! Smothered fried porkchops, some green and the best black eyed peas I have ever had in my 40 years on this earth. Looking forward to a breakfast party at the Breakfast Loft next! Thank you so much. One of the best New Years I have had in a minute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
