Super Dumpling | Warm & Inviting Dumpling Spot in Orange, CA
Reviews
Mainly I was searching for a good halal dumpling spot, and that’s how I found Super Dumpling on Google Maps. Trust me — the dumplings were really SUPER!
We originally went just to try dumplings, but we ended up ordering the chicken noodles too, and wow… absolutely delicious One order of noodles can easily feed 2 people. The portions are big, fresh, and full of flavor. They also give you a paper menu where you can choose everything yourself, which makes ordering easy and fun.
The service was really good — the staff were polite, friendly, and patient. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated, giving a cozy and welcoming vibe. Food quality was top notch: fresh, well-seasoned, and served hot.
We’re definitely planning to go again soon to try more dishes!
The only downside is that it is a little cramped of a space though however, it would be nice to have a larger table size! 🙂 I’ll be bringing any and all of my Muslim friends and family here in the future, great place all around!
Note for people wanting a nice selection of everything, order the following:
– Fried Beef Bao Buns
– Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings
– Orange Chicken
– Egg Rolls
I’ve been deprived of dumplings since they’re almost always pork :/
Finally, a place that serves yummy halal dumplings.
They also have other Chinese dishes that I love.
The restaurant has lots of indoor seating plus lots of patio seating. It’s well decorated plus nice ambiance. The staff is super friendly and hospitable. They made recommendations.
When we arrived there was already a line of people waiting to be seated… Always a good sign. We waited about 20 minutes for our group of four.
We looked over the menu while waiting to be seated.
We ordered a few dishes.
-Chicken Xiao Long Bao was yummy and juicy.
-Pan fried beef buns are also excellent… They’re fluffy with a slight sweet taste and crispy shell. They’re juicy too.
-Orange Chicken was good…very similar to Panda Express but pricier. I would’ve passed on that except one person in our group wanted it.
-Spicy chicken wonton were very good and juicy.
-Spicy cumin Lamb was AMAZING!!! I would say that was the best dish.
Portions are just right and prices are reasonable.
Will be returning to try other items on their menu. Luckily, they also opened another location in Culver City.
We decided to make the 30-minute drive, and upon arrival, we were seated right away. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, and the service was excellent from the start our server was attentive, quick with refills, and even gave us his recommendations. The space was also very clean and nicely kept, which I appreciated.
Now, the reason for the three stars comes down to the food quality and pricing.
For starters, I ordered what most people on TikTok recommended the beef and crab soup dumplings. I also took our server’s suggestion and added the spicy chicken wontons, shrimp fried rice, and a beef and vegetable entrée (which I believe was the broccoli beef). I also ordered a Thai tea, since it was popular among other diners.
Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the rave reviews I had seen. The Thai tea was the first thing to arrive, and it was extremely sweet almost undrinkable. I asked if it could be made less sweet, and the server brought back the same cup with more milk added. It helped slightly, but it was still way too sweet for my taste.
Next came the shrimp fried rice. Presentation wise, it looked beautiful, but the flavor was bland and underwhelming. I had to ask for sweet and sour sauce to give it some life. For the price, I expected a more generous portion of shrimp we only counted about 5-6 pieces, which felt like a bit of a letdown.
The beef and vegetable dish (my husband’s order) was actually the best thing we tried. The flavor was spot on, but the texture of the meat wasn’t great it felt a bit off, almost like it had been boiled or wasn’t the best quality cut. It didn’t come with rice either, which we had to order separately.
Then came the highly anticipated soup dumplings. My husband thought they were decent and rated them 5/10. For me, they were more of a 3/10 the flavor just didn’t hit right. The spicy chicken wontons were okay in texture, but again, they were lacking in flavor and definitely not as spicy as expected.
Overall, Super Dumpling isn’t a terrible restaurant, and I do appreciate that it’s Halal and has a wide range of options. The service was wonderful, and the restaurant itself was spotless and comfortable. But for the high prices, I expected much better flavor and consistency.
Maybe we just came on an off day, or maybe it’s just not for us but personally, I don’t see myself returning. There are other places out there that serve more flavorful food for half the price.
