Anytime a new restaurant opens you pay extra special attention. This is a newly remodeled restaurant which had a lot of challenges opening up(A Good Thing). I was hoping to find more online about the food choices so I included the whole menu in my pictures. The website needs some work and hopefully they will reach out to me. As far as the food and drinks… Excellent!!! Salad had 3 types of greens which included Spinach, Romaine lettuce , baby kale, with Carrots radish and onions, croutons and their own homemade Ranch dressing. We of course ordered steak which was a sirloin with Gouda mac & cheese(great choice)withwith Home cut fries. I later noticed that they had truffle fries(which my waitress said were excellent). We followed up with homemade peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream(probably the best I’ve ever had in a long time). The waitress was excellent. The food was amazing and we will return again so please follow and like and we will update you the next time we are about to go happy Easter.

We arrived to celebrate my mom’s birthday with a total of nine adults and five children. It didn’t feel very crowded. The waitress took our drink orders, and I requested a spoon. She served us drinks, and I asked again for a spoon. Eventually, she brought it. We placed our food orders, and I asked a few times for ketchup, but she never brought it, so my brother had to get up and find some himself. When the food arrived, my son’s chicken looked as if it had been cooked in dirty oil.

His side dish was macaroni and cheese, but it was served cold. I assume that’s why it only looked like plain pasta without any cheesy sauce. I ordered a chicken breast with two vegetable sides. My chicken was hot and freshly cooked, but my sides were undercooked, bland, and very cold. My husband ordered a steak with a side, and he also said his steak and side were cold. My cousin had pasta with steak, and her dish was so cold that when she tried to lift it, it resembled a large, gelatinous mass. However, she mentioned that her steak itself was okay.

I mentioned several times to the waitress that my food was cold, but she never offered to take it back or do anything about it. By that point, I was frustrated but didn’t want to ruin the birthday celebration. Additionally, she didn’t give my mom her complimentary dessert since it was her birthday. When we checked out, she billed us all separately, which was fine, but then she added a 20 percent gratuity to each of us individually—which was unusual, especially since we paid separately. I’ve been to other restaurants where larger parties aren’t even allowed to pay separately, so it would have been helpful to know about the gratuity beforehand.

That part felt a bit misleading because she never communicated the policy, and several people who were unaware still tipped her in cash. She ended up receiving a 20% gratuity from five checks which were small numbered families in addition to the cash tips.

Overall, this place needs significant improvement in communication, timing of food preparation so that everything is served hot and together and general hospitality. Unfortunately, I will not be dining here again.

I’ve waited for weeks to eat at this restaurant. It happened last night. The salad seemed to thrown into a bowl and delivered. The calamari appetizer was tasty although I felt it had a heavy breading on it. I was not impressed with the tomato flavored dipping sauce. When our entree arrived on the gigantic plates, I felt much was missing of the PRESENTATION of the dinner. A plate with mashed potatoes and a thin sliver of a ribeye steak . . .
The wait staff was attentive and friendly.
It’s worth another visit. Maybe next time I’ll order a burger.

This was our first time coming to Trail Boss, we’ve heard great things about the restaurant and wanted to give it a try for our 20 year anniversary.

We went in around 1pm and it wasn’t busy so I was thrilled about that. As soon as you walk in, there is a Specials menu and today’s looked pretty good but decided to go for a steak.

They give you the choice on a table or booth, we went with the booth and was seated immediately.

My husband and I both ordered the 8oz Sirloin Steak which comes with a side salad and one side dish- I got the Mac n Cz and hubby got the loaded baked potato. I had requested well done on my steak and he went with medium rare. Unfortunately mine was not well done and couldn’t eat more than four bites but the Mac n cz was delicious and loaded with flavor.

We will be back to try other items on the menu because the Special today did indeed sound yummy!

Valentines Day 2026. Had reservations. Arrived at 6PM, busy, but not overwhelming, there were several empty tables and no standing in the bar. After being seated had to waive waitress over to take our drink orders. 20 minutes later finally told the busboy to get our waitress. She said bar was busy. Asked to speak to the manager. 5 minutes later got our bar drinks. Ordered our meal. My wife’s steak was okay. Mine was well done and burned, I requested medium. Paid and left. Manager never did come to our table.

Some of the best chicken fried chicken you will ever taste. Also I have a favorite server named Jennifer. All the food is fabulous. I have another sweet young lady named Haleigh who is my favorite server. I feel like I’m eating at home. Go and see one of these ladies and eat anything on the menu. It’s so delicious!!

This is probably one of the best restaurant options Kerrville has to offer. It’s head and shoulders above 5D. The steak had a great sear and flavoring. The rice pilaf was so-so, kind of bland and dry. The Mac and Cheese was great and so was the loaded baked potato.

I am disappointed there weren’t more steak options, you have one page of steaks and three pages of the other food but it’s supposed to be a steakhouse. I would have loved a prime rib, porterhouse, or even a t-bone. They offer a sirloin, NY strip, a ribeye, and filet mignon.

Our waitress was 5 stars all day long. If you’re the owner reading this, it’s the taller lady with the cool centipede tattoo.

I have to tell this story. My wife and I have been here several times and we like the meatloaf. But the portion is so big that we only buy one and split it and go away stuffed.
We were there last night and ordered the meatloaf (one order to split) but when it came out, it was a bit burnt. It was disappointing, but we decided not to say anything since we had always had a good experience previously.
About 10 minutes into our meal the waiter came back with two large slices of meatloaf – a whole second serving.
My wife asked if it was because of the first ones were burnt and the waiter said yes. Apparently the chefs were aware of it but rather than keep us waiting, went ahead and served the burnt meatloaf and then gave us a whole second order.
I was blown away. We had not complained, we had not said anything, they could’ve just let it go. But they didn’t!
I think it’s even more amazing because ours was a tiny order. Just one meatloaf to split and water to drink. It’s not like we were part of a big company there. It would’ve been very easy to just ignore this couple and not worry about it because there were plenty of other people in the restaurant, but they took care of us without us even asking. That shows me integrity and a pride in their product – the food they serve
They just won me over (again). And I had to share this amazing story of above and beyond attention, service and pride in the quality of their food.

Ain’t as good as the Cowboy was, but it’s got a whole heck of a lot better since they first opened. By far the best medium rare ribeye in these parts, Fredericksburg included. But if you do find yourself in Fredericksburg, I recommend Hitchin’ Post.

As far as the service goes, Trail Boss has good folks. Feels about as much like home as restaurant can, I reckon. Good place to stop in for a drink, if you like quiet and a good conversation from your bartender. Overall, it’s a good private atmosphere. Great place to discuss business, or a date night for grown folk.

P.S. They do pretty good with to-go orders too, steaks included. Just in case you’d rather just stay in your recliner for diner
