I went here with two friends on a Wednesday evening after a show at the playhouse. (We had reservations.) The food was excellent. I don’t know how a previous reviewer could say otherwise! We had chicken wings for appetizers. I had eggplant parmesan and the others had the taco chili salad and a salad with grilled chicken. All was very good. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting and I will definitely return.
The only drawback was that the service was very slow; I don’t know if they were shorthanded, but everything took a very long time (waited to order, for appetizers, for the meal, for the bill, etc.) We were there at least 1.5 hours.

The Ivoryton Tavern is a cute little, warm & welcoming dive bar in the Ivoryton section of Essex.
It’s a good, clean, honestly family friendly place. There was a couple with their pre-teen son seated at the table next to us at lunch today.
I hadn’t been here in a few years and, thankfully, little has changed in either the interior decor or menu choices.
Just great pub grub in an eclectic, comfortable setting.
I went with a “little burger” today (little meaning a full 1/2 pound of ground beef) with cheddar, bacon, and mushrooms after a bowl of their delicious chili.
It was all just as I recalled, which was just fine with me. No reason to screw up a winning formula.
I’ll make a point of getting back here sooner than later.

4 people, had a reservation for 5:15. Seated promptly, ordered burgers, salad, quesadillas at 5:30. Drinks came immediately. There were several empty tables. So not too busy. Others were getting their apps. Dinners arrived at 6:35! Waited 1 hour! Had to eat fast to make the show. Unacceptable. Food is fine, service is terrible. We have eaten there before and the wait was long, but came back because it’s close to the theatre. No more!

We were in the area and decided to stop here for lunch. The parking is a little tough, only a few spots available in front of restaurant, and not being familiar will area not sure where more parking is. Very cozy inside. Very pubish. The placemats even have coloring and games on the placemats for younger guests, or those of us young at heart.
The food was very tasty, I got the ruben burger. Cooked perfect, very juicy and tasty. My daughter got the fish and chips and they were good also. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you get (half the burger is going home and daughter was able to just finish the fish)

We moved away eight years ago, and we were skeptical when friends said we needed to have breakfast at “The Tavern”…we just left and it was fantastic! Service was great, food was delicious. From now on, every time were back in town, this will be our go-to stop!
Stopped back 12/30/17 for dinner: winner! The omelet burger was tremendous!

What a cozy little restaurant nestled in a beautiful town square filled with Christmas lights and sounds! The burger was gigantic and the peppermint mocha martinis were perfect to warm us up before we headed out to the Polar Express! Even ran into a Hollywood movie star at the table next to us!!

Where to start? Feels very small town. Was strangely quiet despite having a few people there when we arrived on a Sunday around 4. Descent beer selection on tap. Juke box system is hooked up to some Bose speakers which sounds pretty great. No music when you don’t pay. They forgot to cook my burger but were apologetic and up front about it, and didn’t charge for it. Overall this was a great little spot. Oh, yeah… They offer a PB and fluff sandwich on the menu. With no lettuce and tomato.
