Nice atmosphere and a comfortable dining environment. The food was decent but fairly average. A few sushi rolls arrived already falling apart, and the salad in the set menu had quite a lot of dressing.

Service during the meal was friendly, though the food took a bit longer than expected. When we mentioned our feedback at checkout, there was no acknowledgment or apology, which was a little disappointing. Overall, a pleasant place, but there is room for improvement.

You might miss this place, but let us tell you don’t miss out. This is a gem in the heart of Montreal. It has been in business for over 52 years and you need to eat here. We went for lunch and course after course was amazing. Made with love from the owner herself and she is so sweet.
Thank you

Historical authentic Japanese restaurant. They were the first one to open and they are the last one surviving.
It is simple authentic traditional Japanese food. Comforting and delicious.
Noriko Ishii will graciously welcome you . The Showa era atmosphere with Enka music in the background, friendly service and retro deco is very charming. It is the only place in Montreal where you can experience this. Enjoy while it is still here!

Quaint Japanese restaurant about 350m from the Bell Centre. It’s located on the 2nd floor at the intersection of Stanley and Cypress so there are some stairs to climb. It’s right next to the Italian restaurant and the signage isn’t as obvious so you might miss it. Had the Bento du jour, which was quite generous in its servings. The fried tofu was pretty good, and the teriyaki salmon was a good serving served on a bed of rice. It came with 3 pieces of sushi and 4 California rolls that were very good. I enjoyed the small spring roll it came with as it was a different flavour to the fish pieces. The tempura was nice and light and the skewer of teriyaki chicken was very flavourful. Not shown in the picture but also included was a bowl of miso soup, salad and a dessert that included a scoop of green tea ice cream and a cup of hot green tea. Pretty good value bento box! Super friendly older lady was serving everyone and I was surprised they weren’t busier. I wasn’t sure how big the bento box would be so ordered a spicy salmon roll and 2 pieces of spicy tuna, both were great!

The interior of this restaurant has a retro Japan feel with decor and music to bring that ambiance. The service was friendly and efficient. There are vegetarian sushi and Bento options. The Bento boxes were presented beautifully and there were some uncommon items like lettuce leaf in my sushi roll and cucumber and potato tempura. The veg Bento was about $30, which was quite a higher price for the quality of the food, but in this case I guess the price is to reflect the experience of the atmosphere. Overall, the experience was okay.

Very good atmosphere. The food was of good quality. I loved their sukiyaki has the ingredients were fresh and taste on point.

Most surprisingly, they had one of the best rice I’ve ever eaten, and considering my origin, it says something!

Service was good, although not the fastest. But you have to be understanding as all the server (that I’ve seen), were older Japanese ladies, which gave this place a bit more authenticity appeal. But also slows down the speed.

As for price, I would say it’s on the pricier side, for the food that you’re eating. I would say that a reduction in price of about 10% would be great.

Traditional and authentic Japanese restaurant.

I’ve ordered the evening sushi sashimi set dinner. The food and service were both very good.

However, on the menu it says 6 pieces of sashimi, but it was actually 3 pieces but cut in half to make 6. Very dishonest and insincere business owners… Very unfortunate.

Amazing family owned restaurant! Food is all made by an older woman who I assume is the mother, and it was all very delicious. It’s clear that it is good quality and authentic. Truly had a very good experience here
