We travel throughout California to visit our ʻohana and spend time at the theme parks with our na moʻopuna. Carlsbad is one of those places we return to a few times a year, always fun to explore.
After a long day at Legoland, we were exhausted and hungry. I was craving for some onolicious Hawaiian plate lunch, and if I had to be honest, that can be so risky on the continent. Some places that make Hawaiian food are not always the greatest, although Yelp or other platforms say they are. So, it’s really scary, but I am glad we took the chance and ordered through DoorDash because we were also too tired to drive. And OMG, what a surprise.
From the very first bite, it felt like home. The rice was perfect, but the mac salad? HEAVEN…And the BBQ chicken was so soft, tender, juicy, and seasoned just right. You could taste the paʻakai, that unmistakable Hawaiian salt, hitting the palate in the best way.
Mahalo nui loa to Ohana Hawaiian BBQ for bringing authentic meaʻai to the continent. You gave us comfort when we needed it the most.
Now we know – every time weʻre in Carlsbad, this is our go-to spot

The prices are completely different. The location doesn’t give much room seating and eating,there are only six tablets. I feel they need to hire someone that would be over customers relations . That would be able to help with cleaning and organizing the back of the house. The way it doesn’t look so cluttered. Maybe invest in a back room storage space and a large drink refrigerator . Ask for the food dipping sauce can not complain, great choice on the pipes dispenser other than that it is a solid 3.5 Stars

We come here at night before work to grab the chicken katsu. It’s amazing! Huge portions, you can share or have leftovers. I’ve had the meat bbq plate as well, but the katsu is the way to go. I also ask for 2 mac, one rice.

First time visit. I ordered some BBQ chicken for lunch. It was a large amount of meat, could be shared by two. Friendly staff, cozy decor. A typical mom & shop.
The meat was juicy and flavorful. Not too salty. I asked for salad instead of the Mac and cheese, which was accomodated.
Will go back for more!

Ohana Hawaiian BBQ is a gem! My son is absolutely obsessed with their spam musubi—it’s his favorite food. I personally love the macaroni salad; it’s the best I’ve had anywhere. The place is family-owned, and everyone is so kind. We’ve been coming for years!

I can’t sing enough praise for this place. First time here. Best Loco Moco I’ve had since leaving Hawaii. My wife’s Katsu and BBQ beef were also the best since moving away from Oahu. Who I assume is the owner was so friendly despite being sort of slammed, chatting with locals who obviously come often. Even the bathrooms were nicer than expected. Definitely coming back.

Delicious food!! I’ve tried several hawaian bbq places around the area and none compare to this one.
I ordered the mix and match
( chicken katsu & BBQ pork) it was we’ll prepared.
Cake with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad.

The only place I have to compare this kind of food is surf brothers terriyaki, and this place is SIGNIFICANTLY better in many aspects.
The wait to get food was longer than I expected due to how busy it was. The staff was friendly and quick and attentive. Food was amazing, bbq chicken was perfect and nothing was over or under cooked. Will go here again.

You get a ton of food for the price and it is super good! We have tried the katsu, Loco moco, bbq chicken, and spam masubi. All of the items are amazing and delicious. The couple running the restraunt is always friendly and serve the food super quickly.

Drove from Encinitas for my first visit today, and they did not disappoint!

Owner was super friendly and welcoming. I got the mix BBQ plate and it was perfect. All the meats were flavorful and cooked tip top! Not to mention large portions. Extra side of macaroni salad was definitely worth it.

Will be visiting again soon and highly recommend for good Hawaiian BBQ
