Social Profile:

The Heron is a warm and welcoming pub tucked away behind Sussex Gardens in the heart of Paddington, just a few minutes’ walk from Edgware Road and Paddington Station. We serve a premium range of beers, real ales, ciders and wines in a cosy setting with an open fire, comfortable seating and a friendly local atmosphere. Our walls are lined with Royal Family memorabilia, and there’s a corner dedicated to the famous Handlebar Club, who meet here on the first Friday of every month. Guests can also relax in our tucked-away beer garden, ideal for after-work drinks and long summer evenings, with BBQ facilities for special occasions. As well as being a proper London pub, The Heron partners with Thai Zapp to offer some of the best Thai food in London

Classic English pub with ales & a beer garden, plus a lower-level restaurant serving Thai cuisine.

The Heron: A 1960s Shell with a Victorian Soul

The Heron is a great hidden spot for anyone working in or passing through the Edgware Road area. It is tucked away from the main traffic and the noise of the high street, which makes it a surprisingly quiet place despite being in such a busy part of London.

Because it is set back into the Water Gardens development, it stays out of the way of the main foot traffic and feels like a calm escape.

The pub is located in a 1960s building, but the interior is a fascinating piece of history. It was transformed by the legendary landlord Beric Boisard, who moved the spirit and decor of the old Windsor Castle pub into this “modern” space when the original was demolished.

The Boisard family brought with them the world-famous Handlebar Club, making this the historic home for the society of moustachioed gentlemen.

You can still see the memorabilia and the “moustache-measuring” charts on the walls today.

It is very large and spacious inside, which is a nice change from the cramped pubs on the main road. The Thai food is okay and serves as a decent meal if you are hungry.

Overall, it is a very good pitstop during the workday if you want somewhere with unique history and a quiet atmosphere away from the crowds.

Lovely pub with a lot of locals. I was the only tourist there but everyone was very friendly and the young guy tending the bar was up for a chat. The decorations seem to have been collected over a long time. Great place.

Found this place by just walking by and what a pleasant surprise, the staff and locals really friendly not a bad pint good choice and selection at a reasonable price. The place is full of history and things to look at all well kept, I liked the fact the landlady told me of the monthly moustache club, brilliant, they have their own corner. Also the Thai food as well from the restaurant downstairs. Definitely worth a visit and look up at the deiliowhen you do go in it’s worth looking up. Will be back next tien I’m around Paddington as its minutes from the station.

Hands down the most authentic Thai food I’ve had outside Thailand! From the first bite of fragrant curries and zingy street-food classics to the perfectly balanced spice, this place transported me straight back to the tastes I love in Thailand.
Just like my favourite ToolLadee in Foodland. The layers of flavour, the vibrant herbs, and that deep, spicy-sweet kick made every dish unforgettable. Portions are generous, service is warm, and every plate bursts with real Thai soul. If you’re after bold, genuine Thai taste in London, this is the hidden gem to bookmark.

Nice cozy pun serving up Thai food, ate it there and also got it for takeout. Good cask on tap.

I asked for a recommendation for a local draught beer and got a Carling. Not a problem at all, but I wanted to try something else. Also, I said I had coins so I could get a round return in banknotes but I got more coins and got 20p less. Again not a problem. The beef pad thai was good. There is a 10% service charge.

Great Thai food: had a Massaman, papaya salad, jungle curry and fried morning glory. Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had.

Pub is also super nice. Despite the way it looks from the outside, it’s lovely. The staff were super nice too. Great selection of no/low alcohol beers.

An unexpected gem! The pub itself has a great atmosphere and mix of punters. The restaurant sits beneath but can be ordered from upstairs in the pub as well.
The food is excellent. Classic Thai menu and cooked brilliantly.
We had a selection of dishes including the mixed starter, Panang curry, roast duck and broccoli. All full of flavour.
Would recommend if your after some Thai food and a few drinks.

Excellent Thai restaurant underneath a post war pub. Some of the best dishes (and not straightforward to find in London) include raw prawn salad (goong chae nam pla), sai oua sausages and their som tam pu. If you ask for Thai spice, it will come out suitably hot.

This a really nice pub with lots of history within it. Came for a quick drink. The gentleman(manager?) was friendly enough. It’s such a beautiful place. Nice choice of drinks at usual London prices. Relaxed old fashioned pub vibe. Nice little beer garden as well.
