⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
First, they forgot all the extra salsa we requested for the tacos. Second, half of the chips received were all broken & small, not full sized chips. The Guac was OKAY, but questionable. ( seemed out of a store bought container ) Since the tacos were already going to be dry ( no salsa ), figured let’s add some lime!!!! WRONG!!! Limes were also BONE DRY. Not ONE drop of lime came out of any. 90% of the order is already unsatisfying. The complete 100% was all of the MEAT being so DRY. Steak tacos, dry. Birria tacos, dry. Finally, the birria broth/juice, was almost clear with NO FLAVOR. This was probably the worst food I’ve had in awhile. I want to spare anyone traveling 20 minutes out of their way to try this place. Just stick with what you know. I originally wanted the food replaced, but couldn’t imagine the order being any better than the last. Maybe a refund, but not another order of food.
We visited at 11 am on a Tuesday. We placed our order at the register with the owner. They gave us a beeper but when our food was ready someone brought it out to our table instead of having us come and get it.
What we ordered:
– Birria tacos ($12 for 3 plus the broth) – my husband said these were the best birria tacos he’s ever had and he’s tried them in various places around the country. He said they are what he was hoping they’d be every time he’s ordered them somewhere else so he is thrilled that this place is so close to our house and we can go often.
– Rice & Beans ($3) – I got this because I’m plant based. They are made with vegetable oil and not lard. The beans needed salt but I appreciate being able to add it myself. The rice also needed salt. I used the limes that came with our pico to jazz them up as well. Each container is a generous 8 oz.
– Street Corn ($3) – this was really good. Lots of Cotija and a bit spicy. Also an 8 oz container. It’s perfect to share with another person.
– Chips & Pico ($4) – Decent portion for the amount paid. Chips were good. Pico was good as well, it also came in the 8oz container.
– Saboritas ($5) – this was the cinnamon sugar chips with chocolate syrup and it came with an 8 oz cup of vanilla ice cream. Enough to share. The chips weren’t the same as the regular chips. I think they may have been flour chips.
We also got a can of soda and a bottle of water and our bill came to about $32 with the sales tax and I dropped $3 in the tip jar at the counter. It was nice that the sides all came in the 8 oz containers and I just needed to get lids to take the leftovers home. It’s a great way to do it.
The place has tables so you can eat in. I hope they add more plant based items to the menu. He did say I could get avocado instead of meat in the selections so I’m going to try a burrito next time. I’d like to see chimi’s offered and maybe they could consider seasoned black beans as an alternate filling/topping for things. There are various plant based meats or even tofu they could consider adding if they have customers asking for it but I understand they may not want to go down that road.
I hope people get the word out and they are successful and can stay in that location. We are happy to welcome them to our area. Their prices are reasonable and I think the food was worth what we paid. We will absolutely be back! Please stop in and try them!
