First time at Loretta on Valentine’s Day and we already can’t wait to go back! We started with the mussels in white wine/tomato sauce (ate most of them prior to take the picture). The sauce was delicious! For dinner I got the surf and turf special – lamb and shrimp, cooked perfectly. Not pictured was filet and shrimp for my husband, which he loved! For dessert we took home bread pudding which I would get again!

I feel a little funny about raving about the sweet potato fries, but I’ve never had anything like these! I had the French dip special today, which is an amazing sandwich. But this is my first time ever having their sweet potato fries. They are hand-cut dredged in cornmeal (so gluten-free) and honestly the best Sweet potato fries I’ve ever had! Bonnie at the Bar was so friendly, and the Staff and food here is always SpotOn! There are many reasons why Loretta’s remains one of the great NBPT restaurant institution! Make sure you add this place to your rotation!

My family and I had dinner there last night with our children and really enjoyed the experience! Excellent food and service in a nice, comfortable atmosphere. We had the mussels appetizer and for entrees, the seafood risotto, steak frites, and my wife had a chicken dish. All very nicely prepared with ample portions. We will definitely return.

We were passing through for the day and came across this quaint little restaurant. We didn’t have reservations and were able to snag an outside table on the sidewalk…perfect for taking in the town and people watching during the yankee festival. I had the swordfish piccata special, and my husband had the lobster scampi, which had homemade pasta. Both were wonderful, as was Stephanie. We would recommend this little joint to all our friends and family

For the table:
Seafood Risotto: The risotto lacked flavor and very mushy. For the seafood, a tiny lobster tail placed on top, mussels and shrimp. I liked the shrimp and the lobster and the mussels were just ok. Nothing exciting.
Steak and frittes:
The steak was ordered medium rare and came out over…The quality of steak was not appealing and tough. Truffle fries were good. again nothing exciting. Trying to get a drink at the bar was not easy, I was overlooked and they lacked customer service skills. It was, very busy due to holiday week still no excuse for the quality of food at an expensive price. It was a big group of us celebrating a birthday. The one waitress who serving my table was attentive and kind. Overall will not return.

This is a mainstay of the area, and has always had great food and friendly service. I had the occasion to visit recently for their well known Sunday brunch, and I was as satisfied as in my previous trips. The live Jazz music adds a lot to the warm ambiance of the place. I had extraordinary service from Marissa, who is very friendly and customer focused and made sure I had a good experience. The Crab Cake appetizer was just mouthwatering, and the Thai Chicken Lettuce wrap entree was every bit as flavorful and appetizing. Topping that off with the delicious Lemon Cello cake for dessert made the whole brunch a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this restaurant; worth a stop.

My family and I went out to eat for my brother’s birthday. He’s gluten free, so this was an excellent choice for his dietary restrictions. There was a little bit of a mix-up since my dad thought he called in for a reservation at a specific time, but I don’t think it was ever written down, so they didn’t have our reservation. It all worked out because there was a table open for us, and we were seated right away anyway. The food was delicious, I got a portabella mushroom sandwich and was happily stuffed after. Everyone else in my party was very happy with their meals, as well. Our waitress was very helpful and made sure to change my brother’s order to gluten free as soon as he remembered to tell her. Parking is also a bit tough in this area, but we did pretty good seeing as we had to park on the street, and they tend to be a bit strict about parking restrictions.

I absolutely loved my dinner at Loretta’s Restaurant in downtown Newburyport! The location is convenient, with a large parking lot nearby and plenty of street parking available. Despite the restaurant being very busy, they quickly set up additional tables to accommodate guests, which was impressive.
The staff was exceptional—super fast, attentive, and highly professional, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely incredible, with bold flavors and generous portion sizes. I especially appreciated that they clearly label gluten-free options on the menu, making it easy for those with dietary restrictions to find something delicious.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Loretta’s. The warm atmosphere, outstanding service, and phenomenal food make it a must-visit spot in Newburyport. I highly recommend it!
