We order the tartar, the kingfish, sushi & Sashimi assortment, miso soup, and the duck.
Everything was great.
Yuki the server was very kind and gave great recommendations.
5 for food
2 for service, because of inconsistent customer service — some staff members can be rude.
A month ago, I made an evening booking and came to the restaurant. The staff member at the front offered us a table in a very uncomfortable spot near the window (we sat down and it was very uncomfortable because of the bench). We came back to the front and politely asked if we could sit on the other side of the restaurant, where we could see few available tables. As soon as we stepped forward, the staff who greeted us (she was wearing glasses) raised her voice on us and rudely said, “WAIT, I need to check!” She didn’t want to give us any of those tables, saying they’ve been already“cleaned up.”
It was only 8 p.m, and the restaurant wasn’t closing until 10 p.m., so I don’t see any reason not to be flexible and offer a better table when it’s free and not reserved. I would understand if the restaurant was about to close and the area had already been packed up, but in this case, only two tables were cleaned while the rest were still occupied.
If you are not willing to serve customers and provide comfort and good service, don’t even take late bookings. After we spoke with another staff member, she said it’s ok and seated us where we wanted. Obviously the first staff member didn’t want to do extra work on the table again, that’s why didn’t want us to sit there.
This really ruined our mood for the whole night. And when we tried to complain to our waiter that such behaviour is not ok and raising voice is not ok on customers, he just smiled and walked away.
Customer service needs improvement here. It’s rare to see staff members who are smiley and being polite to customers.
The staff were friendly & the service was quick, which made for an enjoyable dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious—my personal favorites were the chicken skewers & the large potato croquettes. So scrumptious!
My family & I loved them.
The only downside was the seating arrangement. Even though we had booked ahead, the three of us were placed at a very small table, & we weren’t allowed to sit at any of the available larger ones. It felt a bit cramped, which was very disappointing.
Still, the quality of the food & presentation definitely made up for it. ️
The only drawback is that the staff were extremely busy, so it was hard to catch their attention. But the food was delicious, the drinks — including sake — were plentiful, and the atmosphere inside was relaxed.
And above all, the restroom was spotless! When a restaurant keeps its restrooms clean, it usually means they take hygiene seriously overall, and the food is often prepared with great care.
Since it’s in South Yarra and the prices are a bit on the higher side, I won’t be able to go often, but I’ll definitely be coming back!
But one particular quality of the food fell just under the bar; the soft shell crab . It wasn’t exactly the softest shell. I don’t blame the chef. I blame where the ingredients come from. Good experience, I would come back again.
We ordered the sushi platter for 4, and it was delicious. Had bite size tastes of everything you could want.
We also ordered the crispy Katsu chicken, edamame, perfectly glazed eggplant and a few sushi tacos. We left very full!
The service was alright- we noticed one waitress complaining about us because we had asked a confusing question. That was a bit uncomfortable. We also noticed that same waitress complaining about another table when we walked in- so maybe it just wasn’t her day…
Anyways! I’d recommend this spot as a cute date night!
