I live on French Island and, had I not won a gift certificate to Castaways, I still probably never would’ve went out of my way to try it. We went on New Year’s Eve and were worried it would be busy and we didn’t have a reservation. So we showed up at 3:50 to wait until they opened at 4 to make sure we could get in like we were at some retirement village in Florida. There was one other older couple that did the same, but we were the only ones there from 4 to 5pm. 2025 may have been a bad year, but we closed it out with an incredible dining experience! Next level food, great service and a relaxing atmosphere. Would 100% recommend! The photos are of the Mahi Mahi and grilled chicken sandwich. Great…every bite of everything on those plates. Only thing I wish they had would be tap beer. Do yourself a favor and give Castaways a try!

Me & my husband went here tonight for our wedding anniversary. IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! Friendly atmosphere, the outdoor setting was great! Very good food & drinks. I had a salted nutroll martini and the salmon with lemon butter! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Had dinner last night at Castaway’s on French Island! It was $4 martini night so of course I had to stop by! I got the special: Ribeye with creamy horseradish, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. It was delicious! For dessert, I got the chocolate lava cake. Amazing! Afterwards, I went across the street to Tom Sawyer’s for a drink with a view. The food, drinks, and service at both of the restaurants were all amazing and I will definitely be going back soon!

This was the best meal on our trip.i had the Steak Diane and my wife had the pan seared walleye. Both were excellent and we just might have to make the trip here again, just to go to dinner. The outside is deceiving, but the service and food were way beyond out expectations

I have lived nearby here for around 10 years and I never knew what I was missing out on. Castaways is a far too hidden gem. Before I went in, I expected this too be like a supper club or a bar but boy was I wrong. It was so much more than that. Upon entering, I walked up to the bar to decide what I’d want to drink and was immediately surprised at their liquor selection. Very nice quality. My second surprise was their menu. I was immediately drawn to the risotto. I ordered the Mahi Mahi with risotto, zucchini and house made French onion soup. The soup was divine and served with a slice of baguette with cheese rather than the bowl covered in cheese. I liked this take on French onion soup. There were lots of onions still in the soup which I also appreciated. I could gave been satisfied with that alone but the rest was great too! I unfortunately had to leave right after the meal was served (due to my own poor time management) so I had just enough time to take a bite or two and had to save the rest for home and ate it at room temperature but it was still great. My extremely picky daughter ordered a huge burger and gobbled the whole thing up with only a few fries left. I’m excited to come back and try more of their treats. Looking forward to ordering a side of truffle fries next time.

Everything was fine; nothing too fancy or outstanding, but the food is good overall. Those truffle fries though…. a must have. I dream of those crispy, flavorful fries. I wish they’d sell buckets of them.

Overall had a really great experience! The staff were fantastic, food came very quick, and portions were massive. We went for Friday fish and were surprised that the restaurant wasn’t swamped. We LOVED that we could talk with our friends at a normal volume. Alcoholic beverages seemed a little pricey but the food was very reasonable for quality and quantity. We will definitely be back!
