I’ve tried so many Afghan restaurants throughout the DMV, but Hawasana is truly exceptional and stands out by far as the BEST. My sister and I aren’t locals, but we visit Virginia often and always explore different Afghan spots — and Hawasana is officially our number one favorite!
We ordered the kabab platter, fried fish, and bolani, and every single dish was bursting with authentic flavor. After a long time, I finally enjoyed Afghan food that tasted truly homemade and delicious. The prices are incredibly fair for the quality you get — honestly, worth every penny.
They’re also famous for their Afghan ice cream, Sheeryakh, so of course we had to try it, and it was absolutely amazing. Creamy, refreshing, and the perfect ending to our meal.
The chef personally greeted us and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, which made the experience even more special. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the staff is friendly, and the entire place is clean and welcoming.
I HIGHLY recommend Hawasana to anyone craving authentic Afghan cuisine. Can’t wait to visit again!
Last night, around 10 PM, I visited the restaurant and asked for a combo of chicken and fish. Even though there wasn’t a specific menu option, the staff kindly accommodated my request. They took a bit of time, which was understandable since they were preparing the fish.
However, when the meal arrived, both the chicken and the fish were warm(hot), but the rice was cold and the rice was less than what I expected, especially for the price I paid, which was nearly $22.81 (inc soda) I was also told that bread would be served, but it came after I had finished my meal, as you can see in picture.
On a positive note, the customer service was good. There was a grown man, possibly the owner, who came by several times to check on me, which I really appreciated. The younger staff members were also friendly and welcoming. But,
The main issue was the timing, portion size, and temperature of the food.
I’m sharing this feedback in hopes of improvement. I believe the restaurant can do better by ensuring all items are ready and served properly. I’ll definitely give them another chance in the future and hope to see positive changes.
I’m still buzzing from our incredible experience at Hawasana Kabob restaurant in Tyson’s Corner! We were exhausted and craving a hearty meal, and this place delivered big time! The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the chef himself, beaming with a warm smile. The ambiance was top-notch, and the attention to detail was evident – they served us on proper porcelain dishes, making us feel like royalty .
The food? Absolutely phenomenal! The kebabs and sides were cooked to perfection, and we savored every last bite. It was the perfect spot to recharge and catch up with friends. Highly recommend for a gathering or special night out!
Service: 5/5
Food: 5/5
Ambiance: 5/5
Will definitely be back!
And the food—absolutely incredible. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. You can tell that quality and care are at the heart of everything they serve. It’s rare to find a place where every bite feels memorable, but this restaurant delivers exactly that.
Farhad’s passion for great food and warm service truly shines, making the entire experience stand out. I left not only satisfied but excited to come back again soon. If you’re looking for amazing food and exceptional hospitality, this place is a must-visit!
We asked for bread and waited 45 minutes. When it finally arrived, it was cold—suggesting it had been baked but then forgotten, even after we reminded the staff multiple times. Additionally, the lunch buffet from earlier in the day was still sitting out when we arrived at 8 PM, which raises serious health and safety concerns.
I understand the restaurant is new and still working through its logistics, but a clean dining area and basic service should be a priority. The experience was disappointing, and it felt unacceptable for the dining room to remain in that condition for so long.
Absolutely amazing experience at Hawasana Kabob Restaurant! The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked—especially the kabobs, which were juicy and well-seasoned. Portions were generous and the quality really stood out.
The service was friendly and welcoming, and the staff made sure everything was just right. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and comfortable, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with family or friends.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic, delicious Afghan/Middle Eastern food. I’ll definitely be coming back again!
It was not busy when I went in the late afternoon for lunch. You order at the register and they bring to your table. Cashier was polite and answered questions about the menu. Everything at the table was dirty so much that I refrained from drinking water from the glass provided.
After waiting 40 min, they brought my lamb kebob platter that came with rice, small salad, and 2 sauces plus a side of chickpeas. Everything was room temperature. Guy said bread was coming but it didn’t arrive until I inquired again when I had basically finished my meal.
I enjoy Afghani food and was excited to try this new authentic restaurant for lunch. I understand that small businesses may need time to adjust after opening and hope management is willing to make necessary changes to keep patrons coming back.
