Refugio Alpino is a hidden gem in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. The moment you walk in, you leave the tropics behind and step into a cozy, romantic alpine lodge. The atmosphere is enchanting—decorated with old-fashioned skiing gear, vintage snowshoes, and photos from the French Alps, with subtle light effects that even simulate falling snow. The ambiance is wonderfully complemented by background French romantic music from the belle époque, with classics by Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, creating a magical setting for an intimate dinner or a unique night out.
The cuisine is excellent, with a menu inspired almost entirely by the alpine regions of France and Switzerland. Their specialties are cheese-based dishes—varieties of Savoyard and Swiss fondue and, of course, raclette. We had the raclette, and it was a fantastic experience: melting the Savoy cheese while grilling the charcuterie right at the table, accompanied by a glass of Burgundy wine. The flavors were simply unforgettable.
The wine list is outstanding, offering a wide variety of French wines to perfectly pair with each dish. Service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and meticulous with every detail. To end the evening, they even serve a complimentary local liqueur; I highly recommend the coconut one.
Although it is on the more expensive side, the overall experience is absolutely worth it—combining excellent food, great service, and a magical alpine atmosphere in the heart of Santo Domingo.

Don’t miss it!
Highly recommend for romantic dinner!
We tried the french fondue of queso. It was creamy and delicious, and the raclette OMG, just perfect — melted cheese heaven.
The portions were generous and everything tasted super fresh.
The place feels really cozy, like a little mountain chalet, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. You can tell they love what they do.
We begun in the terrace for a cocktail, and then went inside for the fondue.
If you like to try something diferent, this is the place to go. We’ll definitely be back and try the fondue of meat.
