For more than 35 years, D’Amico’s Italian Market Café in Rice Village has been known as Houston’s own Little Italy. While the always-bustling spot is well known as a full-service Italian restaurant, it still comes as a surprise to some to discover it’s also an Italian market. As diners indulge in both traditional and innovative Southern Italian dishes like handmade sandwiches, fire-roasted pizzas, house-made pasta and an array of seafood, other customers are shopping the shelves for imported olive oils, Italian peppers, fresh pastas and more. It’s hard to find a place that feels more Italian than this.

One of the best kept secrets for an authentic down home Italian restaurant in the Houston area! D’Amico’s has been a mainstay of the Rice Village for 50 years and shows no signs of going anywhere. Longtime owner Nash D’Amico and now his daughter, Brina treat every customer like family.

My wife and I moved away from the city so when we have a reason to come back we like to go to the places we liked the best when we were here. On this occasion it was the Italian Market Cafe and we were happy we came.

D’Amico’s has a concise wine list but it features some really nice Italian wines at very affordable prices. Our Chianti was excellent and paired well with our dinner. To star we ordered the longtime menu item, Crab Claws D’Amico which were meaty and so tasty. My wife had the flash fried calamari, crisp on the outside but soft inside. So many Italian places overcook this and it ends up rubbery. And here the oil is so fresh and clean tasting.

Our appetizers didn’t last long and soon our main course dishes arrived. My wife was in the mood for a wood fired pizza, she likes a simple topping of bell peppers and onion, it came just as she liked. I had a new dish, at least for me; grilled salmon with a topping made up of avocado, marinated onion and tomato in a white whine butter sauce with capers and a side of sauteed spinach. Wow, was I glad I got that, it was great.

The Village has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants but don’t miss out on a visit to Italy here at D’Amico’s!

Authentic Italian Gem — Impeccable Food and Atmosphere
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 out of 5)

We absolutely love this authentic Italian restaurant—and we’ve tried quite a few across Houston. This one easily ranks in our top favorites. From the warm, inviting atmosphere to the incredible food and impeccable service, everything about the experience stands out.

There’s plenty of seating, and the space feels cozy but not cramped. We were especially impressed by the ability to take food to go or even pre-order Italian dishes and desserts ahead of time. They also sell house-made sauces, pasta, and more, which adds a special touch for food lovers wanting to bring a little of the restaurant home.

Everything we tried was outstanding. Highlights include:
• The gnocchi — perfectly soft and flavorful
• The lasagna — rich, comforting, and portioned just right
• The Caesar salad — crisp and well-balanced
• And don’t miss the fresh-baked bread—it’s fantastic

The wine selection and desserts were equally impressive, rounding out a truly memorable meal.

The only downside is the restroom setup—just one stall for men and one for women, which can lead to a tight wait, especially when the restaurant is busy (and it often is).

Parking options:
• Paid street parking out front
• Or park in the nearby garage for free for up to two hours, which is definitely the better choice

Final thoughts: This place gets busy for a reason—it’s authentic, charming, and consistently delivers excellent food. We’ll absolutely be back any time we’re in the area.

Food was amazing! Best Calamari I’ve had in quite some time! Terri was our server and she was great! I had the chicken piccata and husband had the chicken parm-both came with salads. It was so delicious, hot, fresh, and a warm comfortable hug. Will be telling others to go.

This restaurant was amazing. I had came with 2 other people, and we each had a great time. The service was very kind and helpful for options on the menu. I got ravioli, person 2 got tortellini, and person 3 got eggplant parmesan. The servings were just perfect to be able to eat and have some nice desserts. We got tiramisu, cheesecake, and a little ice cream. The cheesecake and tiramisu were very big and for a good price. Overall the entire place was nice and I rate this 10/10. Tip: go during lunch options are better and cheaper 🙂

Delicious meal with family tonight. Never a disappointment in meals here. Have been dining here since 80’s at their various locations back then in Galveston and Clear Lake. But have been coming to current location since opening in late 90’s. This place is a family favorite and it’s a must try if you like Italian food. Only thing in recent years which is a miss is service, but we overlook because it’s very good food. We had at least 4 different servers last night with a forgotten item and they didn’t check back frequently for drink and bread refills. Forgot to take photos of house salads, mussels and calamari appetizers — they are all delicious too. Minestrone soup is very very good!

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch of Nash Pizza and crispy Shrimp Salad. Both were delicious! Isac our server made our experience even more enjoyable with his warm demeanor and attention to detail. Thanks for a wonderful outdoor lunch experience on such a lovely day. PS There is a parking garage directly behind the restaurant with free parking for up to two hours. Additionally, there is a back entrance to the restaurant from the ground floor of the parking garage.

People truly make the difference when dining out — they’re often the reason for return visits and glowing recommendations.

Our server, Mr. Issac, was exceptional: friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in creating a best-in-class experience. He offered thoughtful menu suggestions, spoke highly of the dishes, and made us feel completely at ease.

The entire D’Amico team was warm, professional, and detail-oriented. From keeping our drinks refreshed and serving bread upon arrival to efficiently clearing plates and packaging leftovers, every touchpoint was seamless. We were even personally thanked and welcomed back as we left — such a kind gesture.

Thank you, Mr. Issac and the D’Amico team, for a wonderful dining experience. We look forward to returning soon!

We moved to the area and had been looking for an authentic Italian market and google shared a few, one being D’Amico’s. We found it relatively easily, and found parking nearby. We appreciated that it was pet friendly (outside)as we had our dog with us. They were slightly understaffed, it had been cold and rainy recently and today was a beautiful albeit cool day so I completely understood what the manager was telling me in regards to eating outside. (There was another couple w their dog outside so we weren’t alone) We got our menus. I ordered the lentil soup which was fantastic and the seafood linguine diavolo. My wife ordered the fatale putta. Julian our server brought out some bread, some olive oil while we waited (we like the bread some much we ordered a loaf to take home). Our meal came out relatively quickly. Big portions, hot and delicious. We skipped the dessert and coffee as we had other plans. The place was busy but not too busy since it was 3:30 in the afternoon. It was worth the trip from our suburb town (40 minutes away).
