Definitely a hidden gem! A place only the locals know of and now some non locals. We would have never found this place if it wasn’t on The Daytripper’s Rusk daytrip and we look for the local restaurants when we daytrip.
Lunch specials are daily not just M-F. If you are not sure what to order, go for the Molcajete, which is what we ordered. It was enough for two people to share. The owner split the beans, rice, pico and guac onto 2 separate plates so we wouldn’t fight over who ate more.
The place is small, only about 12 tables, majority seating is 4 per table. Time your visit on an off hour. Even though we arrived at 12:30 pm there was 2 tables available. The service was prompt and we were checked on frequently.
End your meal with their sopapillas, we only ordered the small size. My daughter insisted she didn’t want any and proceeded to eat 2 of them when they were set on our table.

Wow! Saw this place on Daytripper and had to go, this review is my second visit. The food is amazing and would certainly recommend to anyone in the area, passing through, or just make it a destination. I had the Piedras Negras nachos today and I was happy.

I loved the atmosphere. The food took a little long and the stuff had fallen off my nachos. But everything was saved by their creamy smooth guacamole. That stuff was delicious. Their hot sauce was good too. I got the appetizer sampler. They called it something else but it was really good.

Outstanding carne asada fajitas! Service was good but never checked up on us after food was served. A bit cramped as far as spacing inside. When you see two local peace officers also eating at a hole-in-the-wall like this one, you can bank on it being a good place to eat.

I went here for their five year anniversary. They were extremely busy, but food came out very fast and very delicious. I was really surprised by the flavor. Everybody was extremely friendly and had a great atmosphere definitely will go again.

A pleasant surprise located in the heart of this small town with authentic dishes. Service was above par, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Lunch specials offered every day with (2) complimentary alcoholic beverages, beer or margarita, with purchase of entree. The rice and beans were the best I have had anywhere and the prices were very competitive. This restaurant is a must visit on my list and I will definitely go back to enjoy this cozy authentic Mexican restaurant again.

Truly a hidden gem in little Rusk, Texas! The service was outstanding, the salsa was tasty but a little mild for my taste, the chips were great though! The portion sizes are really substantial and the prices are very reasonable. I ordered the Mi Ranchito combination plate and the Mexican rice was honestly the best I have ever had. We will definitely be back and plan on bringing family with us next time!
