The atmosphere was like taking a step back in time to an authentic dining experience in Jamaica. The music, vibes, and service made our experience truly authentic. I would highly recommend the curry goat and the ox tails! Our server was awesome and definitely represented the brand! Very charming restaurant indeed.

Food was excellent, service was great. The owners are very personable and welcoming. My favorite dish so far is definitely the jerk chicken nachos. Everything was AWESOME!! My family ate it ALL up. My niece and nephew tore up the fried grouper, my brother reeked havoc on the ox tails, and I smashed the veggies. My sister devoured the rasta pasta with jerk chicken. Loved the plantains. All around good food!! Whew…. you’ve been waiting for this!! Go grab you some.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. My Wife had the wing dinner with rice & peas, and fried cabbage. I had the oxtails, rice & peas, and plantains. So good! The young woman who took our order was cordial, and professional, and our order was ready in a short time.

If you’re strolling around Hickory, North Carolina, and suddenly find your stomach growling like a hungry lion, then Dirty Thumbs is your ultimate culinary oasis! Tucked away in the heart of Hickory, this place is a culinary wonderland waiting to be explored.

Let’s dive right into the food, shall we? Prepare to have your taste buds do the conga because once you’ve savored their ox tail with rice and peas, you’ll be doing a happy dance that’d make even the most seasoned dancers jealous! Tender, succulent ox tail meets perfectly cooked rice and peas in a flavor explosion that’s nothing short of amazing. And don’t even get me started on their beef and chicken patty; it’s unforgettable, like that one unforgettable summer fling you keep reminiscing about. Juicy beef, tender chicken, all wrapped up in a golden-brown crust that’s crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. It’s a culinary masterpiece that’ll have you dreaming about it for days on end.

But let’s not forget the ambiance! Picture this: cozy booths, warm lighting, and the faint aroma of mouthwatering dishes teasing your senses. Whether you’re flying solo, on a romantic date, or rolling deep with your crew, Dirty Thumbs sets the perfect stage for an unforgettable dining experience. And the service? Top-notch, my friend! The staff here not only know their stuff but also sprinkle a generous dose of Southern hospitality on top of everything else.

In a nutshell, Dirty Thumbs isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an adventure for your taste buds. With its mouthwatering dishes, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service, it’s a culinary journey you won’t want to miss. So grab your fork (or your fingers, no judgment here), and get ready for a gastronomic ride that’ll leave you craving more. Bon appétit!

I was so excited for this place to finally open, finally more culture coming to the Hickory area and what better than Jamaican This spot didn’t disappoint from the moment we walked in we felt like family, the atmosphere was warm, small but in a good way. We started sampling 3 different appetizers Durty Chips, Cocoa Bread, and plantains. The Durty Chips were not only good but a very wise decision to put on the menu, the plantains well let’s just say we placed an additional order to go and the Cacao bread was fantastic. We both tried the Oxtail plate and when I tell you they were falling off the bones and seasoned perfectly, the cabbage was different it was almost a steamed consistency but flavorful and filling. The peas and rice were a good compliment to the meal but I think next time I will choose plantains. Natalie the owner came to the table to check on us and to tell us the history behind the restaurant. She came a few times to continue checking on our meal and we learned that it was a fusion restaurant combining Southern cuisine with Jamaican cuisine. My next try will be the pork tacos made with their homemade jerk sauce as pork traditionally is never found in Jamaican cuisine. I’m so excited to have this family here in Hickory and if you meet the owners daughter not only is she delightful and truly a mixologist with her drinks but a wonderful server and very attentive to everyone’s needs. This is a must try in Hickory! Can’t wait to go back on Thursday!!

We had a delicious visit to Durty Thumbs Jamaican Restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. The plantain appetizer was perfectly fried and tasty. I ordered the Goat Curry which was absolutely amazing. The meat was so flavorful and paired perfectly with the rice and peas and Callaloo which is a Jamaican version of greens. Unfortunately we were told that the restaurant was closing in a weeks time until the owner could find another location. I really hope they open again somewhere in Hickory. We need decent ethnic food!

I’ve been looking forward to eating here since they put the sign up. I’ve got to be honest, the service was not good. We waited 45 minutes to get our food. This doesn’t make sense because none of this food is cook to order. It’s all ready. Very long wait time. Ok, so the food. The rice and peas had the basil leaves in it and just wasn’t good. Ox tail was small pieces and small portion. The jerk chicken was good. Fried cabbage just ok. The prices are high. My wife and I ate lunch and it was $50! The building is dated so it had a septic smell in the dining room. The bathrooms smelled really bad. I’m not sure I’ll go back. I was very let down. But I’ve got to be honest so there you have it. I’ve ate a lot of Jamaican food and this is far from authentic. Far from it.

This place seems very underrated. They weren’t really busy when my friend and I went at dinner time, but the experience was fantastic. TLDR: the food, service, and atmosphere are phenomenal.

Note: I have to put that we spent $20-30 per, *but* we only spent that much because we kept ordering extra things to try. If it wasn’t for that, it’d be closer to the $10-20 range.

The food was delicious.
As an appetizer, we ordered the cocobread, and it was very light and fluffy and warm. Think Hawaiian roll, but *better*.
For my entree, I ordered 3 jerk chicken tacos with fried plantains (because they have a deal for 3 tacos) and it was so good I ordered 3 more! The chicken was so tender and it was seasoned and cooked just right. The jerk sauce and cole slaw was also great. 10/10.
We also got a slice of the pineapple rum cake and it was so light, fluffy, and moist, the fork just went right through it. It was absolutely delicious.

Aside from the food, the staff were very friendly, and the cook even came out and talked with the patrons. They seem like wonderful people. Service and interactions were a 12/10, it really made the whole experience that much better.

A friend of mine introduced this establishment to me, who just so happens to be the owners daughter and I’m so glad she did! I ordered the Taste of Jamaica . I absolutely loved the sweet plantains, it balanced out the rich spices from the jerk chicken & rice beautifully. I was literally eating the rice and plantains at the same time, it’s such a great combination.

Definitely enjoyed how the jerk chicken was falling off the bone, I wasn’t sure how spicy it would be since I’m not the biggest fan of spicy foods but it’s level of intensity for me was great! There was just enough spice for the kick but not overpowering. I will definitely order from this establishment again! Compliments to the chefs and their assistant/promoter!
