Small cozy neighborhood ramen shop. R ramen was ok and there’s a regular selection for a small ramen shop although I thought the modan broth I had was a little salty, but that’s personal preference. It was relatively busy on weekday evening, with both in person dining and take out order. The server tried her best to accommodate guests as much as she could, but there’s only so much she could but herself. The parking lot outside could be busy, but there’s plenty of street parking too.

“I had a wonderful experience here. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the service made me feel comfortable. The ramen had a deep, flavorful broth, and the Hawaiian poke tasted fresh and delicious.”

One of the original Japanese-style ramen restaurants, going back to 2013 in the area, Modan is a long-time consistent bowl of savory goodness.
Offering a Black Ramen and paired with an order of Spicy Tuna, this offering continues to be a favorite pick. Their Tonkotsu broth is also very rich and good. Miso and vegetarian options are also equally tasty.
Side dishes such as Brussels sprouts and Gyozas are crowd favorites. The additions of sushi-type rolls later in their menu are also very popular and a great alternative to just ramen options.
Modan’s Eagle Rock location is now the only location with this namesake. There was a separation in ownership and business model that separated them from their original South Pasadena history. Their taste and quality consistency is welcomed and has given them a nice stake in Eagle Rock.

I want to make it very clear that this was in no way the fault of the service. There was one waitress that was handling ALL the tables for the restaurant and she did her best, and was very sweet. This low review is because the managers allowed this restaurant to be understaffed during a dinner rush! I’m not sure what happened but I felt bad for the one waitress trying to handle all the customers as well as DoorDash orders. Shame on the management for criminally understaffing their employees! My group and I ended up leaving because service was just too slow unfortunately, but again, I do not blame the server. I blame management for allowing their restaurant to be understaffed.

It’s not the nicest spot, but the ramen is KILLER. I love the ramen here. I’ve been here once during Covid and remembered really liking it and it didn’t disappoint this time around either.

The ramen is simply delicious and the appetizers are pretty damn good as well. The wait can be long and the service isn’t always the same when they’re busy, but they are nice. Their macaroon ice cream sandwiches aren’t the same ones you find in other restaurants.

Absolutely love this place. Definitely best in the area by far. Some cool stuff on the menu such as the kimchi ramen, which was huge!
They don’t have the biggest interiors so it does get busy… but you can join/check the waitlist online! Super convenient.
Also, nicest staff anywhere!!

Love this place! This place is tiny! Not that hard to find since it’s in the plaza with Organic grocery store. Decorations are very interesting, farm house theme with modern style. Staffs are very very polite (with some sort of Japanese manners) and attentive. Dishes came out unexpectedly fast. On a regular Friday night, when usually Eagle Rock get quieter than Highland Park, this place still have lots people waiting outside. That’s a good sign!
They have some vegan/vegetarian options for everything, such as vegi ramen, curry bowl, seaweed salad, etc.
The Vegi ramen can be made vegan with kelp noodles. I ordered vegi ramen with medium spicy. It’s perfect spicy level for ramen that really satisfies my cravings. We also ordered Brussels sprouts per other yelpers’ recommendation. It’s flash fried. I think it’s good but a bit too greasy and too hard. Seaweed salad is a safe play. Very typical Japanese seaweed salad flavor (which you can also get a huge box from Costco if you really love that salad.) A side salad was served in a big bowl, a surprisingly good portion of salad. I was too hungry and didn’t taste that much about this salad. No comment.
Anyhow, I like this place so much. Will definitely come back very often. 🙂

Please be aware they claim they close at 8:30 but after 8:00 it is to go only and this is not clearly listed. If you would prefer a dine-in experience, get here before 8:00. Otherwise you will be disappointed.

I absolutely love this place. I’ve visited this place many times before and we always get the brussel sprouts.
This visit I got the kimchi ramen which was very much needed on a cold LA night because not only was it hot, it was spicy too. So watch out!
10/10 recommend.
