We recently visited Doc Bales for Dinner. Friday and Saturday nite dinner, they do offer a Southern Buffet. It was my Husband’s birthday and our Anniversary, so decided to eat at the Restaurant. The buffet is not really big, but the choices are really all you need. The food was very good and hot. There was a carving station and a southern Cajun Boil. The desert was very good. They actually had my Husband’s favorite cake. I would highly recommend The Hotel and Restaurant.

Excellent food and service. Ask for Signet. He was super attentive and friendly and accommodating to our needs. The omelette station is my favorite. Fresh and made to order just how you like it! There are so many choices in the buffet to choose from … bacon sausage pancakes fruit grits oatmeal yogurt parfait bagels toast salmon eggs tomatoes and the list goes on. Coffee is steaming and fresh and there’s lovely beach views. Will definitely continue to return for these delicious meals. Update: Another great experience . My server Signet was amazing!!! So attentive and kind. Ask for her! They also have a pancake maker now

This just goes to show you that you cannot judge a place by the reviews. We went here for Easter Brunch and I believe my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The food was wonderful and service was fantastic at Doc Bales’ Grill inside the Hilton of Daytona. Our waitress was so very sweet and the hostess was kind also. Overall great experience!

Food was great, dinners service was acceptable, breakfast service was awful, she came by 2x then we were on our own, no refills, no chance to order anything else.. We come here often and service is normally great and we love eating here, but this weekend’s service was awful and very dissatisfied..

Ate breakfast here. The French toast was good, and the glazed apples were a nice touch. The sausage was fine. The coffee was fine. It was all very fine. The service was great. A very nice view of the ocean, so that was nice. Make sure to get some coffee to go!

The service was great. The water was attentive, friendly, and on point. Kept checking on us and making sure our drinks were filled and making sure we were enjoying ourselves and the food. The gentleman who was making the omelets did great and was friendly… The food on the other hand, I wouldnt even give it one star. The food wasn’t cold but wasn’t warm. More like room temperature, so it was almost not even kept warm. The eggs tasted like powdered eggs. My son loves eggs and he wouldnt even eat them. He also loves cheese in his eggs, we tried adding it but the eggs weren’t even warm enough to mix in the cheese.. he said no and pushed his plate away (and he never does that) the biscuits and gravy weren’t good. The biscuits were hard. French toast was not good. There isn’t many options to choose from for food. They do have cereal (butbehy pay $30 if you’re getting 1 bowl of cereal. They dont have many fruit options. It is not worth the $30, I was really looking forward to the breakfast and was only let down.

We came on a Friday evening for the seafood buffet that is only offered two days a week. It seemed to have decent reviews, so we gave it a shot. We arrived and at peak dinner time on a Friday in a vacation spot (8pm ish), there were only 3 or 4 total tables with guests. This should have been warning number one. We pressed on.

Husband and I decided to do the buffet sight unseen, as it had pretty decent reviews. There were only a few dishes available when we approached the buffet. There was a salad bar with all the normal stuff, some seafood salad, and I believe one or two other sort of very typical things. I tried the seafood salad. It was cold, but there was so much horseradish it was nearly inedible. Despite all the “dressing” on it, it was still dry; almost as though it had been sitting out for a while and was unstirred.
Moving to the hot dishes, the Mac and cheese was really the only decent thing, if I’m being very blunt. The mashed potatoes were dry and lukewarm, the lemon roasted chicken was cold, the seafood boil with shrimp was cold, the prime rib being freshly sliced was freezing cold (no heat lamp on it), braised ribs that were room temperature at best, and there was only one other seafood dish – a cold tilapia.

I have never (until this day) not paid for something at a restaurant when I ordered something and didn’t like it or it wasn’t properly cooked. Under any other circumstance, I’d have had the server ask the kitchen to make it again or something, or simply pay for my meal and never return. However, this was so awful it was inedible. The temperatures for the food weren’t right, the food itself was not great, and the food as a whole left us feeling queasy after only a bite or less of a few dishes. Needless to say, we left, and the server was kind enough to not charge us for the 4 or 5 bites we ate.
My husband and I were both very ill later that night, and we assume it was the poorly kept food, but there’s no way to know.

I would say buyer beware. Ask to check the food first before agreeing to the buffet, and open the chafing dishes to see if there is any real heat to the food.

My mistake for not posting this sooner. I was here the 1st of August weekend and we dined here for breakfast. I have to start off by saying what a wonderful greeting by Danielle. She is always smiling, so friendly and energetic. We loved having her as our person for 2 mornings. She remembered us and greeted us by name. Wow a wonderful asset to have in your establishment. OK now the food. The buffet was clean, fresh and had a wide variety. I loved the personalized omelet station. The salmon was exceptionally delicious. I don’t know what they did but it’s by far my favorite ever. I did notice they do dinner buffets as well and I’m going back to try it out. I’m not one for buffets but this one is definitely one to indulge in. You won’t be sorry.
Again, Danielle I’m sorry for this late review. You rock girl and maybe we will see you again on our next staycation!
