Family friendly atmosphere.
Helpful and fast staff
Prices very fair.
Can be a bit chaotic inside the establishment.
Highly recommend
My daughter has a tree nut allergy and ordered a s’mores milkshake, something she has had at this location many times before without issue. As she always does, on her initial visit she asked the appropriate questions about whether the s’mores milkshake had nuts. Of course, s’more’s traditionally do NOT contain nuts, (Have you ever had a s’more with nuts?!) so there was no reason for her to expect them any other time she ordered. This time, however, the milkshake contained pecans or walnuts, which were not listed anywhere on the menu or posted as an allergen for the milkshake.
After just a ONE sip she had an anaphylactic reaction. This was not a mild reaction — it was a true anaphylactic emergency that required immediate use of an EpiPen, and she has been sick the rest of the day as a result.
When I spoke with the owner, she explained that “When I did the ordering last week they were out of the ice cream I normally use and so I got Rocky Road to use instead.” Well, ma’am Rocky Road contains tree nuts, and that’s what they are currently using in the s’mores milkshake. Again, who puts nuts in s’mores?!?
At no point was this ingredient change posted, or communicated to customers.
When I suggested that customers need to be aware of the change and need be posted — especially considering tree nut allergies can be life-threatening — the response was simply, “Yeah, that’s a good idea, I need to post that.”
Food allergies are not a minor issue. Ingredient substitutions involving tree nuts should absolutely be disclosed so customers can make safe decisions.
I truly hope the business takes this situation seriously and implements clear allergen labeling moving forward so no other family has to experience something like this. My daughter is a student at WVU and being hours away from me during a completely avoidable medical emergency was extremely stressful.
For anyone managing food allergies, I would strongly recommend asking detailed questions EVERY time about ingredients before ordering.
A simple ingredient substitution should never turn into a medical emergency.
