I recently ordered a cake for my daughter’s baptism from National Bakery, and Donna was wonderful to work with. She guided me through the ordering process and even offered thoughtful recommendations when I wasn’t sure about the design. The cake was absolutely delicious—perfectly moist, well balanced, and not overly sweet. It was a huge hit, and for the first time ever, we didn’t have a single leftover slice. I will definitely be ordering from this bakery again.

Came here to pick up a few dessert items for a party that we were having. The place has a good selection of deli meats, but I was here for bakery. Got waited on by a super nice woman. Decided a several small pieces of frosted cake. They had cupcakes, but they were small and not very exciting. Plenty of other options including cookies, donuts, and turnovers.
Most of the bakery items are “okay”, but not what I would call amazing.

Picked up some assorted packer bakery for a party. Cookies were all good, most were the decorated sugar cookies. Also bought some small cakes shaped like a football and they were dry. I find this is often what disappoints me. Probably wont buy cakes again. But their bread looked really good although it’s been a long time since I bought breads. I will go back at some point when I need something.

Ordered a 10 inch custom torte cake for my daughters wedding for $53.00 that was to be only gray in color, no floral or writing, just gray frosting. Had color photos attached to my order showing exactly what I wanted. When I picked up the cake it was mostly white with a bit of silver spray on it, NOTHING like I had ordered. I was offered the opportunity to drive from Greendale to the 16th street location where the decorator was for them to try and fix it. When I arrived I explained and showed the pictures I had. Asked if it could be fixed by adding black food coloring to the frosting. The decorator took it in the back to fix it. The frosting was more green in color, nothing like I asked for. I recommend if you want a custom cake of any kind you only order straight from the designer, not at the Greendale location. Thank goodness the venue was a bit dark. I was very disappointed in my experience.

Great bakery with friendly staff and a history to the Milwaukee area. They have fun cookies for the kids and a variety of crispy cookies to choose from. Their danishes are delicious and they offer a wide variety of bakery and deli items.

Rainbow Jimmy Persian: Although I know I’ve had National Bakery in the past, I’m almost positive it’s been over a decade since my last tasting. National Bakery was founded in MKE back in 1925 in the center of an old Polish neighborhood. Supposedly, its owner Louis Wisniewski named it National Bakery & Deli because he interpreted National in his native Polish language to signify for the people. Today I have a Pershing, which is a doughnut that is similar to a cinnamon roll, but is made with doughnut batter. The cinnamon flavor is subtle, but I could see the cinnamon granules in the dough after taking a few bites. I found the dough to have a nice thick and chewy texture, while the rainbow jimmies and vanilla frosting added some sweetness. Due to the thickness of the doughnut the ratio of icing to dough is a little off for my preference. With the pershing being so thick, I think adding a glazing to the dough would have improved it greatly. To be clear, this is much better than the abominations Dunkin calls doughnuts, but it’s not good enough to make me want another either. It falls just shy of my “Doughboy approved” rating and is going to get a “Just Okay” (though I would consider trying some additional items from National Bakery).

This has been a favorite place of mine and I remember a friend of my mom’s bringing the cupcakes from here over for years.The hot ham and rolls are also better than anywhere else, and today my bf picked up a loaf of the cinnamon bread which was 10/10 for sure:) the staff is nice and prices really aren’t that bad, the loaf was like 4 bucks.
