Cashier was really nice when we picked up the food. Overall the food was good, especially the flavor. The meat was on the chewier side. The normal portion felt like a ‘small’ and the large portion felt like a regular sized portion. The takeout bag is cute.

My friend and I decided to check out Lucky Danger since it was part of restaurant week. We were a bit surprised when we arrived and saw there was barely any people there —red flag—To be honest, the service was pretty disappointing—the appetizers took about 30 minutes to arrive, and there were quite a few mix-ups with our orders. Instead of owning up to the mistakes, the waiter kept blaming the chefs, which was frustrating and very unprofessional. Having worked in the food industry myself, I was surprised at how poorly the situation was handled.

We had gone for the fixed menu that included appetizers, an entrée, and dessert. Unfortunately, the apps were cold and took a long time to arrive, the entrée was a handful of hot peppers and a bit of chicken and rice, honestly very spicy and also cold, and the desserts were very soggy—nothing special, and kind of cheap-tasting. When I shared this feedback with the waiter, he just shrugged and didn’t really try to make things right. I definitely won’t be returning to this place, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to any friends. It was a really disappointing experience, especially with the service feeling rude and unprofessional.

Tried the Beijing beef, crab rangoon, and wonton soup and every single item was a hit. The Beijing beef was crispy flavorful, and perfectly sauced. Crab rangoon was fresh, creamy, and not greasy at all. Wonton soup was on point.

Lucky Danger—what happened? This has long been my go-to spot for Chinese takeout because the quality always felt a step above. After being closed for a couple of weeks, they recently reopened, and unfortunately I noticed some disappointing changes.

In the past, my food would still be piping hot by the time I got home. This time, everything was packed in unsealable wax paper bags, which meant the food was soggy and completely cold. I ended up having to reheat the entire order in the microwave.

It also seems like there have been some changes to the menu and the way certain items are prepared when nothing was wrong with how things were before.

To be clear, the flavors were still great and the food itself was delicious, as it usually is. But the packaging change feels like a significant step down in quality (possibly a cost-cutting move?) that I didn’t expect from a place I’ve always thought of as elevated Chinese takeout. I really hope this isn’t the new standard, because cold, soggy takeout is a bit of a turnoff for an otherwise excellent spot.

I see from other recent reviews that I’m not the only one disappointed with their changes. Hope they’ll listen to the feedback.

Ashley Danita makes this place extra special, welcoming me so warmly! And even though I wasn’t seated in her section. I enjoyed the food, cocktail and great vibe.

Decent place, but not stellar.
The apps are a good deal, but the main dish is barely more food than an app. I’ll have them again, but not going out of my way for it. Wontons we’re the best.
Nice packaging, so probably more about presentation & delivery than top quality.

Quality of the food was surprisingly good and higher than my expectations! Ordered the family style Meat OK meal for two and there was plenty, plus leftovers for two people. Hope this becomes a permanent location – best Chinese and overall Asian restaurant in Pentagon Row in my opinion. Food is authentic and delicious, and cute branding is a plus.

Update: Tried Lucky Danger a few more times since they’ve opened (3-4 times), and the quality seems to get worse each time. Getting burnt food seems to be a frequent occurrence, online ordering/timing seems to be very off, and some things like crab rangoons look like someone’s taken a lazy shortcut. See pics. Disappointing. They have potential but need quality control. One time pointed out our order of scallion pancakes was burnt, and they apologized and offered to remake the food but it was burnt yet again. Stopped giving the place chances.

My boyfriend and I ordered for the Meat OK! for 2-3 and the dumplings for delivery. First off, major props for the packaging! Everything was labeled; the bags and stickers were really cute. The food was also really good. The duck fried rice and crab Rangoon was particularly delicious. The greens could have used a bit more cooking, but were tasty. We loved that it included such a great variety of dishes and proteins (beef, chicken, shrimp, crab, veggies). The portions were good-sized; the two of us had plenty of leftovers.

Be aware if you typically order from here that the menu recently changed, in my opinion for the worse. A number of dishes we usually order (including crab rangoon and salt and pepper shrimp) all were cooked differently / had different ingredients than usual.

Not sure why there are some very negative reviews on here. We’ve ordered twice from here and each time the order is packed well, comes with cute stickers, and tastes fresh. Some food delivery apps have coupons for this place from time to time as well. I will say it is is a bit tough to find if picking up though. However, this place is definitely well above your average hole in the wall Chinese take out place.
